Why does he move differently from every other character? Is that a JJ Abrams thing I'm not aware of?

It was not very good, it was just less offensively awful than the episodes immediately prior to it. If you didn't get a good laugh about Hootie and the Blowfish being cheaper than blank tape, you have problems.

De La is in there, both Doug E Fresh and Slick Rick, Flava Flav, etc. the digital animation gives them the chance to do really deep detail on the scenes. but it's just naming things that exist. a space where 25 years ago they would've put jokes is now lovingly filled out with small details that don't mean anything. I'd rather they put something in there like "stop looking at the background, idiot" than stuff that's supposed to make me hoot quietly because Homer, like me, can recite most of "La Di Da Di"

I like the concept of Trilogy of Error, but it irrationally irritates me how it presents itself as a parody of Run Lola Run (complete with the techno soundtrack as Lisa runs around Springfield) but doesn't actually get it right: Run Lola Run depicts three separate "runs" of the day as if it were a video game level restarting over and over, not the same day from three different perspectives! I think it is one of the better episodes of around that time, but that's not saying much.

On a different topic, here's one of the highest points of the Simpsons: MARGE: Have you noticed any change in Bart? HOMER: New glasses? MARGE: No. He looks like something might be disturbing him. HOMER: Probably misses his old glasses. MARGE: I guess we could get more involved in Bart's activities. But then I'd be afraid of smothering him. HOMER: Yeah. And then we'd get the chair. MARGE: That's not what I meant. HOMER: It was, Marge. Admit it. A similar exchange just a few seasons later would have over-explained the jokes and been filled with wackiness and/or angry for no reason Homer. "But Homer, Bart doesn't wear glasses!" *pause for laugh track* "He does now!" *shakes fist*

I absolutely did not intend to suggest otherwise. The crater would be where the Simpsons artists had been, to clarify. And the Bojack ones would be Keep On Truckin' into the distance

Bart finds a note or something and says "that's SO gay!" and then says "these losers are out of food!" It just seemed really out of character to me because Bart is usually mischievous but not just outright mean. Definitely seemed like they were trying to be "cool" for the time by trying to redefine Bart's bad boy image for the 2000s.

I watched that entire thing and the argument 'people used to hate old Simpsons episodes but now love them' doesn't really hold when you factor in the time it takes for people to around to them I'd put money on these episodes getting better comparatively, when you see the true depths of the Simpsons then Saddlesore Galactica suddenly doesn't seem so bad

The Simpsons used to be about middle class American morons, now the writers have no idea what that looks like so they just channel Los Angeles self-masturbation and musical theater for some reason.

Also "people hated the old episodes too!" is basically false. Total fringe nerds on alt.tv.simpsons would complain about the episodes, but the public consensus was nothing but praise.
