crispix posted:why are they doing it? honestly i expected them to drop it once they'd finally got rid of him as leader. what are they gaining from banging on about him now? :/ Starmer is very inexperienced in parliament and Labour and so does not have a support base within the party - this is why there is not really any such thing as "Starmerism", he doesn't really have a project of his own, nor people who would follow it. This means he's had to staff his office with the few people who profess loyalty, who happen to all be non-MPs; people like Jenny Chapman, David Evans and Mandelson. Because they aren't MPs, they don't have to worry about losing their jobs in an election, so they can keep their cushy jobs and just keep feeding lines to Starmer about he just needs to crush the left a biiiit harder and that will win the public over. Eventually once it becomes clear than even relatively safe right wing MPs are in danger (along with the mostly right wing base of Blairite Labour councillors) they will look into giving Starmer the boot. Which will be very easy - like I said he has no real power base in the party.

Their project is directionless and failing, and complaining that everything continues to be Jeremy Corbyn's fault is a handy displacement activity.

also, i can't imagine any reason that labour might suddenly be motivated to be slightly more reconciliatory to the vile antisemitic tyrant jeremy corbyn? how strange. on a completely unrelated note, here are all the emails labour have sent one of my email accounts (not even my main) this year alone, including one hilariously spam titled "Urgent: Renovations Required", all of which are begging me to renew the membership i explicitly cancelled the day they kicked corbyn out. it is not including the....four or five separate letters or other mail pamphlets they sent, the two unsolicited phone calls nor the motherfucker they literally sent to knock on my door. the bottom there is a personal plea from my former labour MP, who had been in the role before I was born all the way until 2010, writing me a letter at 6:04 in the evening from his personal ipad/email account. it's probably because of that amazing membership surge they were recently crowing about that they must have the additional manpower to do this kind of retention work. i'm sure starmer's labour party has a bright future ahead. edit: lmao i missed one "URGENT: Your membership needs renewing NOW" sure pal CoolCab has issued a correction as of 17:53 on May 24, 2021 |

Any communist party that seeks to and then succeeds in getting on the ballot in a bourgeois democracy is probably all cops. If you feel like you have nobody to vote for who doesnt suck poo poo, just stay home. Join the most radical fringe party you can find that is focused on stuff you like and at least the social stuff might be fun

The thing about libs is they aren't happy with just winning they want you to admit they were right all along. Lib psychology demands they be the smartest and best in the room (which is obviously why they should be in charge) and that's why they will never be happy with victory alone. You have to kiss the ring. And even that isn't enough. You have to grovel constantly WHILE they rub your face in it. You can see this in the US where centrist voltron soundly defeated Bernie and Bernie has gone on to campaign for Biden and grovel endlessly and Biden won! Most of Bernie's fans are either on board with Biden or have gone to the DSA or dropped out completely. There's no Bernie "movement" if there ever was. But it's not enough. And that's why they still scream about BERNIE BROS!

There are still ripples from the Bernie coalition that are significant and terror-inducing for liberals, like how progressives recently took over the Utah Democratic Party. I think the liberal superiority complex stems purely from them being hegemonic but having nothing to show for it. So if liberalism hasn't liberated anybody since WW2 and we're being ground down by the constant state of capitalist immiseration, at least you can feel good about being the most correct and the most powerful. Every right wing political camp has a superiority complex, but liberals have the most power to change things and don't so they're the most annoying about it. Conservatives don't have that problem because they run on promising to change nothing. Business as usual is validating to conservatives but invalidating for liberals, and that's part of why they're perennial losers. Pener Kropoopkin has issued a correction as of 03:08 on May 25, 2021 |

Tbh you can disregard the figures for the first quarter, yeh they suck but our manufacturing industry had been largely shut down. What you got to watch for is that a lot of companies used the shutdown to upgrade outdated equipment, a lot of which will be to automate processes and make low skilled staff obsolete. So we should see profits and exports rise but unemployment in those sectors take a huge rise over the next 6 months.

I think the only real opportunity he had to sort it was to make open selections pass at conference and he decided not to. Don't think a proper purge was doable otherwise. Labour is now facing a legal challenge as a result of expelling Corbyn for example I suppose he could have enforced a three line whip on something and used that as an excuse the way Boris did
