:eng101: The Bible neither pins the number at three nor explicitly refers to them as men. "Wise men" came from the assumption that magi meant man.

Coulda been a couple of wise ladies giving communion wfaers and wine, that would have fit the narrative just as well. Or it could have been four wise men and their seventy servants.

Shooting and Fucking
are the same thing!

If the assumption that they were kings is right they would've presumably have a large entourage.

So even if there was just three each one would have at least a dozen guards and servants if not several times that.

It's a bit like when people think about Medieval warfare. A lot of people assume peasants did most of the fighting but according to the Medieval class structure the nobility was the fighting class so you had maybe a couple hundred noblemen trained from birth in strategy and combat backed up by lot more peasants mostly tasked with digging trenched and cooking the food while the Belatores did the actual fighting m

As I was going to Jerusalem, I met three kings and their men. Each king had seven guards, each guard had seven servants. Servants, guards, kings and men, how many were going to Jerusalem?

This was blowing my mind so I looked it up...Dennis DeYoung played Pontius Pilate in a 1993 touring revival of JC Superstar, well after Styx and just before writing a Hunchback of Norte Dame musical. BUT it looks like he did grow up with some of the other original cast members.

As the Magi were Zoroastrian priests, it's an easy assumption in the context of Judaic¹ and Greco-Roman misogyny, but there are indications that there's nothing in the Zoroastrian scriptures prohibiting it as there's been a lot less push-back on the (re?)emergence of female Mobed. Now whether this was contemporary or just some kinda Air Bud thing I don't know, but it's interesting.

¹ the requirements for kohanim were even more ridiculously strict, barring anyone otherwise eligible from service for just about any physical defect or injury.
