Yeah I'm not seeing what the huge deal is. He lets them do their call outs to demonstrate what they are doing and then he has them stop so he can continue describing what's going on.

The newest "Down The Rabbit Hole" is defiantly OSHA. It is mostly about the British K-class submarine and what a total cluster gently caress the "Battle" of May Island turned into because of them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZS0RpOgdfQ

Yeah this is definitely worth a watch just how dangerous the submarines were to their crews even by WWI standards. As a teaser: they were steam powered instead of diesel.

Even better, two engines! Because the head admiral was same enough to realize relying purely on steam was a terrible idea...and instead said to put two engines on.

He rigs a lot of speed lines and he was into that sort of music/edit style for a while. People in the reddit thread were bitching about tik tok, but he's been doing that sort of thing for 8 years. I think I've posted this one in the thread before https://youtu.be/wfV_vJDvBtc This has surprisingly decent production for a 2013 video by a dude that cuts down trees for a living. https://youtu.be/F8OkghIn9L8 MisterOblivious fucked around with this message at 10:28 on Jun 8, 2021 |

KoRMaK posted:the host of smarter everyday is genuinely a good host in the 4 hours of videos i watched today. i wasnt talking about him, dustin. I got you, that bit of the vid is 100% NCO's going "good, you're doing good commands, good yell. I like your yell, that's the volume you need." and then reassuring them they don't have to run themselves hoarse any more. IME, Half the time with training for stuff like firefighting, trauma casualty, and other similar exercises, you have to REALLY get the kids that haven't seen it in anything but training to do things at more than a library voice. That dude is actually telling them "good job on the reaction, I like the yell." with that tap. You can also tell afterward the CO is super proud of them. spookykid fucked around with this message at 11:06 on Jun 8, 2021 |

KoRMaK posted:No no, I don't mean Dustin. I mean the guy who keeps tapping guys to tell them to shut the gently caress up. The guy on camera at the part I time-stamped to. Dustin, the smarter every day host guy is fine, he's cool, he's listening. The CO or whatever first taps a guy to get him to be quiet then kinda keeps telling people to shut the gently caress up in am escalating way. It's super subtle and just something that annoyed me. When the second fire is extinguisher guys come on he kind of acts like they are stupid to be yelling just cuz they are filming - not good OSHA exercise! The CO is sitting next to Dustin. The dude keeps telling people to shut up because he's trying to explain what's happening as part of HIS job. The crew escalate as well by getting louder and giggling when he shuts them up. Was it even intended as an actual training drill or a "let's run through this drill specifically for the camera" drill?

Yeah, it took us a long time as a species to realize that you have to train like it's a "real life" event, or people will act in "real life" like it's a no-consequences training exercise. The apocryphal story I've heard: New York City cops used to use revolvers (way after everybody else switched to semi automatics) and they'd do reload drills on the firing range because the revolvers only held 5 or 6 shots.* To save time bending over to pick up brass afterwards they'd eject the empties into their hand and pocket them instead of dumping them on the ground. That proved to be a bad habit in real life situations. E: if you missed it, they run the drill ~3 times a day in full gear with pressurized houses. I can tell you from experience that it feels really strange to just let a magazine you paid good money for to drop 5 feet onto gravel. There's always a little voice in the back of your head saying "this drop could destroy my $30 piece of plastic." *: There's something somewhat jokingly referred to as a "New York Reload" where you drop your primary gun and switch to a backup rather than reloading. Some tacticool courses probably still teach it. MisterOblivious fucked around with this message at 12:44 on Jun 8, 2021 |

It's amazing how many people sound like the lady from Police Academy when you start doing any kinds of drills. Just absolutely meek and quiet, and it has to be drilled in that when it really happens poo poo is going to be loud and chaotic, and you need to project over and through that.

Probably good for another 30 years of service or more. Testing just gets more stringent as time goes on but still, old bottles keep getting certified. Sometimes we goons forget we're old now. That a 50 year old bottle really isn't as old as you feel it is. A 50 year old bottle was made in 1962. Some guys get bottles from the 1930's.
