Heya! I think I just encountered a quest-breaking bug in my game. I didn't find any answer, so maybe someone here has found a solution...

It's about the ultraliberal political quest - "Become a man of plenty". I'm at a point where I have to sell a piece of art. Internet says it's the Mega-Rich Light-Bending Guy, but I can't open the container anymore; I've been there before, and now the door just says "The door is locked, conclusively". Apparently, this is a known issue, and people only suggested starting a new save and never interacting with the container at all until the quest asks for it.

Am I just hosed now? Is the only way to complete the quest to have it while visiting the container for the very first time, since you're locked out forever afterwards? Or can I pull some save file-editing shenanigans to restore this?

This might work, but I'm not sure: unzip your save file and add the line "Variable["cargo.mrlb_has_left"]=false;" to the end of the "states.lua" file, and then re-zip it up.

I ran into the same issue myself. Dozens of people on the steam forums did, it's still not being fixed sadly. It only happens if you do the red check there before you leave, but its still a glaring oversight.

Does it? I was under the impression that it was fixed in Final Cut or some other patch since when I tried doing it on purpose after I had managed to successfully sleep in the lighthouse without dreaming about Dora during my complete racist rear end in a top hat playthrough, Composure stopped me from being able to do so under the justification of preventing me from erasing all the progress towards the subject. Granted, I assume it's probably more due to the above spoilered bit, or because I had Cuno as my partner.

I tried it a few weeks ago and it still worked, maybe its fixed by now?

Yes and no. You still lose the game. But you can then point out to Kim that he taught that you that points don't matter and that regardless of the score you played the game that you wanted to and did what you set out to accomplish and he likes that answer.

I did it because I needed to kill time for the vision quest. It's a pretty good little scene, worth reopening the box and playing it again (if that works) or reloading a save and giving it a try.

dead gay comedy forums posted:

sit around, kids

so I started playing the final cut right before my life went to hell (during a plague and under the Bolsonaro govt nonetheless) because of a familial disaster that left me without a roof over my head, no job and very little money.

thanks to the solidarity of friends and colleagues, I managed through. By mid-May it was all solved - as if by miracle given how fast things happened, really - with shelter and work with decent pay to attend my immediate necessities (and even some little comforts).

so last month I decided to finish it because of the new content and, being commie, I wanted to see what ZA/UM had to say about it. The funny was spot on, had my lols, but the conclusion was one of the most important things to be ever said in a videogame. Perhaps the most important? Maybe, because sure as hell I am biased. I wrote thousands of words already about Disco Elysium, about how it is one of the most fundamental pieces of art in our time, the first game to actually come through in terms of being literature at its most meaningful.

the communist quest is a masterstroke because its reward is entirely designed for the player to enjoy and benefit, not the character. It spoke rather deeply to me personally, given the recent circumstances. The most important thing about it is that not only it explains the why of revolutionary socialism, that "why" carries another quintessential factor that many leftists of our days seem to forget rather often: hope.

"How the hell", one can ask shouting from rooftops, "you can fight for the better day without hope?"

To call oneself truly a communist is to have hope in the face of the Sisyphean struggle that each and every one of us that work for a living, to provide to oneself and dearest others, face every single day. To have hope that one day, things will be better not only for someone or a group of such, but for all of us. That one day, there will be much less unnecessary suffering.

I was down to my last few bucks getting a coffee and something to eat while waiting a reply from a friend to stay there a few days, and because of their work, it took a few good hours to reply. I was out in the street and it began to rain in this very gray sky of the Southern Atlantic, my luggage and all the poo poo I could carry in a pinch with me, and I felt the whisper of despondence, the one borne of being pushed into abjectness, that the shadow of abasement was grasping at my heels; some tears came down, but I didn't feel like crying, which was somewhat odd for me. I asked myself if these were the worst circumstances I have ever been, and well, yes.

Then I remembered I wasn't in my worst mental state. Thought that was rather funny, actually. Although poo poo was harrowing, I was looking out for solutions, getting in touch with people, waiting for job replies, asking and receiving help from friends. Then I also remembered that I had been in remission against chronic depression quite successfully since dec/19. That time was hosed up, even though I was far more comfortable. Then it dawned on me: what made that absolutely awful was that I simply couldn't find hope. I was terrified because my vision was dim - I couldn't see a future.

Even though the weather was starting to look awful and I didn't know where I would sleep that night, I took a couple of deep breaths and managed to steel myself because of that one thing: hope. poo poo was awful. poo poo could be much, much worse. Yet, hell, I am a communist: I believe in a much, much, much more difficult, complicated and grander advent, what is a personal little miracle in comparison? Just to turn things around?

I never quite figured out how to articulate the emotional appeal of "why I am a communist" to someone else like ZA/UM did here. Of course, I teared up lots when, after all the bookchat and artillery barrages of jargon were done, the game goes for the most fundamental question, the why. Not finished yet, seeing the heartbroken wreck of a human being, a complete beast in terms of loving it up, seeing that guy going out to say, "hey, let's do it one more time, all together"? gently caress me, I was completely owned then and there. Not only it is beautiful, it is necessary, it is elevating - the best possible effect of an artistic experience imho.

"In dark times, should the stars also go out?"

Unfortunately, it did not work!

It DID make the container available for interaction again, but not as a door. I'm just stuck wondering how the door could be opened, but with no Rhetoric check available. I tried a variety of things to, maybe, make the Rhetoric check pop up again, including editing the save file for the list of available white checks, but no dice.

This... sucks. I was on Day 5. My last save with the container unopened is Day 2.

Oh dear. -_-

Got my wife playing it. She's not a video game person at all. Has some interest in DnD type RPG, and tabletop and some experience in each. Got her started, she chose the emotional default character. Started out hardly being able to walk around, still needs to look down for the A button on the xbox controller. She played for ten hours yesterday, completing the first day. I gave her almost no help past initial getting started and keys and whatnot. Still hasn't gotten the body down, or even spoken to Measurehead. Did go through a lot of the Doomed Commercial Area. She's going to be a moralist, sorry cop, it looks like, though she's getting a bit more aggressive though, thanks to her fairly high physique score. She likes the horrible tie, for sure. She did get a bit upset at how the game is complicated and esoteric. I told her that, yes it was, and I still don't know how everything works, but that she is doing fine. She has mastered the Jamrock Shuffle, and figured out that like every bottle you can see, you can pick up, which I never realized.

I also already told her that this is basically the best game ever so, everything else will be poor in comparison.

Any recommendations for point and click, RPG's and Visual Novels that a casual might like to try after this?

I don’t know, I played KRZ after disco elysium, in part because people compared it favorably to Disco Elysium, and it’s much different, there’s even less text and it’s even more slowly paced. I enjoyed it, but i much prefer Disco Elysium, although if you liked Inland Empire, the skill, it’s probably the closest thing out there to a Twin Peaks/Lynch video game.

yeah i thought each instalment of krz had at least one legitimately transcendant moment, but it's nowhere near as good as a whole package because for krz doing art is the whole point, for de that's just one thing you can do. worth playing, but temper your expectations.

Yeah, NitW really captures a certain time and place. I think it hits a lot differently if you're from that sort of dying rust belt town that's depicted. It hits home incredibly hard for me and I can see my home and my friends and family and myself all reflected in portions of it in a way that makes it a real gut punch.
