Seven Spires - Gods of Debauchery is out today. I'm still on my first listen (77 minute album, got dang), but so far it's great. Heavier and darker than the previous one. Emerald Seas was quite breezy, had a lot of old Kamelot vibes. It did have one song that was kinda like a Cradle of Borgir kinda thing, and this time that seems to be more of a rule than an exception.

Fortunately the frontwoman is a great singer and does both cleans and snarls very well. She's also their primary songwriter, and very good at that. I guess the whole band being Berklee College of Music graduates counts for something.

I guess I could say this band is to symphonic metal what Unleash the Archers are to power metal: Basically in that genre, yes, but a lot richer and more varied than the usual stuff.

Seven Spires really stepping up to fill both Gloryhammer's dumb Power metal and Wizardthrone's dumb Black Metal holes with some smart Power Black Metal hybrid

Well, it sounds like they went full synthwave on this one. drat. I guess it was trending that way, but I wasn't expecting that.

Apparently it's a film soundtrack so that makes sense.

Ah poo poo, yeah, that makes sense. It's a pretty good album, all things considered. Definitely similar to some of the other good ones in that whole synthwave/outrun category.

Im not a fan of how the songs are pretty mid paced, but the guitar tone is pretty drat close to heartwork's which is pretty cool.

Had just discovered them in 2010, missed them on their local tour date figuring I'd catch them next time around, then they broke up as soon as the tour ended lmao.

(Warning: Nazi/Anti-Semetic content, it's a mini vice documentary on extreme right-wing metal festivals)

Seeing inside one of these festivals is pretty horrifying, I don't see how a band can perform at a festival like that without supporting some sort of hate.

looks like the detroit metal scene in late 90s/early 2000s. its different now but back then you’d get active recruit attempts from the detroit hammers. dudes sieg heiling every band on stage. it got to the point that napalm death refused to play the venue.

those openly NS festivals are a bit different from something like steelfest which certainly has sketchy bands playing but isn't overtly praising hitler on the flyers and such.

Thanks for these! I think one-offs are better, odds are less that people are gonna have time to scalp the tickets. That said, I'd've dropped a few hundred for this show.

I liked it but they are a band whose peak was 30 years ago. Surgical Steel grew on me a lot so this might too, but it still feels like a lesser version of SS (plus some Swansong) which in turn was a lesser Heartwork.
