How do you feel about the concept of 10 hours of procedurally generated djent? How about 20 hours? https://dennismartensson.bandcamp.com/album/the-infinity-construct-chapter-1 https://dennismartensson.bandcamp.com/album/the-infinity-construct-chapter-2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqvmUnG25dA

Is this metal? Riffs... without guitars. Or drums. https://i-voidhangerrecords.bandcamp.com/album/sic-transit-gloria-mundi GOATCRAFT is a very cool name I suppose.

Kvlt! posted:Agreed. It's not metal music it's just wrapped in a metal aesthetic. It can be done, the early Apocalytpica stuff had no drums or guitars and that stuff shredded. Granted it was all covers of music built around drums and guitars so maybe the example doesn't stand to a ton of scrutiny, but it kinda works? Goatcraft sounds like someone's just learned how to play chords on a piano and left ableton recording while they did exercises.

I think to me personally metal needs some sort of distortion. It's the one thing that links all metal bands from the earliest roots like Blue Cheer or Black Sabbath to Cattle Decapitation and Ulcerate and everywhere in between. But that's my interpretation, everyone's is different. xzzy posted:Goatcraft sounds like someone's just learned how to play chords on a piano and left ableton recording while they did exercises. There's a few bands I've listened to since the 90s but Hypocrisy is one of the most consistent. They launched their new album into space (or at least as high as the balloon took it): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uydkQnj8too

I agree the music sucks but I was also making a statement independant of your post saying it is not metal.

Hog Fell on Me posted:Really interested to hear about this. Honestly, it’s such a cool time we live in, ie that taking lessons from “famous” musicians is a thing that you can do (“famous” in the sense of our own sub-subgenre nerdery) I wasn't looking to do anybody subgenre-famous honestly, it just works out that metal voice teachers are so hard to come by that you end up with name-brand people as often as not.

And I'm not sure I'm that into Beast in Black's recent direction either, plus I've gradually come to realise that eventhough I fully acknowledge that he is super talented, I don't like Yannis Papadopoulos' voice that much either. Or at least not the way he sings in BiB. EDIT: Fortunately, I've discovered plenty of good stuff lately to scratch my need for cheesy heavy metal. Such as this album, which also has one of my favourite cover arts I've seen in a while: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tq8kNo4u2Fo The intro and the first song are a bit boring, but it really kicks into gear after. Since December is right around the corner, I figured I'd post my favorite albums of 2021 and see how they compare to everything else once I catch up with the rest of the stuff I've neglected this year: 1. The Night Eternal - Moonlit Cross 2. First Fragment - Gloire Éternelle 3. Seven Spires - Gods of Debauchery 4. Dream Unending - Tide Turns Eternal 5. Passéisme - Eminence That's pretty much it right there! Looking forward to listening to what I've missed in this thread and elsewhere when everyone has their picks lined up.

I spent all morning googling before remembering this thread existed, so here goes nothing: I'm looking for a music video. It's some kind of death metal/metalcore thing (this would have been in the mid 2000's, maybe 2007? so I think that would be the right genre maybe?) Anyway, from what I remember the video takes place in an old house, vaguely dungeon-like. I don't remember too much, but intercut with footage of the band is this story about two children playing together or falling in love or something, told in flashbacks. The thing that burned itself into my mind is the final shot of the video. A woman, heavily implied to be the same child from the flashback, now an old crone, reaching for the singer, but it plays out like a shadowplay on the dungeon wall. That image really stuck with me and I'd like to find the video again. If there are any Canadagoons in the thread, I'm like 95% positive I saw this on MuchMusic back in the day. Anyway, would be cool to see it again if it can be found. Thanks! magic cactus fucked around with this message at 20:34 on Nov 30, 2021 |
