Oh Amazon is really evil, my point is that the most comprehensive surveillance structures in the West are the ones in the hands of private companies and are ones that people effectively opt-into. FBI analysts wake up in hot flushes having dreams about being able to access the data that Amazon and Google have on you.

e: it's a different kind of information problem. Amazon can use your browsing history to work out if you are pregnant before you even know, which is pretty scary, but it just wants to use this data to sell you pregnancy products.

It is time-sensitive. I think the education and aging problems are going to gently caress China real bad over the next couple decades. Not CHINA WILL COLLAPSE TOMORROW but it's going to be serious trouble. All I'm saying is I get why they're trying, what's the alternative? They can't go back to the early 90s and start fixing it when they had time to. Even if they would allow immigration, which they absolutely won't, there's no way they could get enough immigrants to fix the problem either. They'd need hundreds of millions of people. Not feasible just on a logistical level, let alone everything else.

Depending when this was and where you were, probably. I didn't drink or cook with tap water but I used it for stuff like tooth brushing. The water in the major cities is generally not that bad nowadays, I've seen people send bottles of it for actual testing and it usually is a bit dirty but passable. Not like I'd be surprised if that bottled water I was getting was just Chengdu tap anyway, but.

The best link there is a tangent to their warehouse clock system (https://podcastrepublic.net/podcast/1596777564 for anyone unfamiliar), but Amazon isn't an arm of the state and you can choose not to participate in their awful systems.

The most sick I've ever been was when I got food poisoning from a chicken skewer at Seoul Station. I didn't know anyone and I had just moved to a new place and I was literally dying like the guy at the end of Last Crusade overnight from dehydration from dry-making GBS threads and dry heaving and was only barely able to survive by dripping water into my mouth drop by drop like an IV because trying to drink any real amount just got puked up instantly. After being awake all night I finally stumbled into a Chinese medicine shop at like 9AM when it opened and showed them the google translate for "food poisoning" and they thought I was just super hungover so they gave me some garbage, a mouthful of little brown balls made of some kind of herb.

Was this what they gave you?

There are like 3 types of local eating places in singapore:
  • hawker centers - medium to big, usually stand alone bulidings, lots of stalls, covered, not airconned
  • coffee shops - small to medium sized, usually under flats / buildings, usually 5-10 stalls, not airconned
  • food courts - medium sized, usually in malls and buildings, 15+ stalls, airconned
If there's no aircon, there's fans tho because it's singapore and oh my god we would melt otherwise.

i though the definition of hawker stalls was a bunch of food priced at like 3-10 sgd and the food courts were like middle class food priced at like 10-30 sgd, in which case lots of malls have both

What is the scam here when I get randomly messaged by a Chinese bot? Or maybe it isn't a bot and it's a real human mass messaging random phone numbers.

I know on Tinder it's a thing to ask if you have WhatsApp and then get your nudes and blackmail you. Some Russian dude tried to tell me his name was Patricia and then I just started speaking to him in Google translate Russian and he called me slow and ended the convo lol

My friend's mom treated their dog's gastric issues with TCM. She believes it cured him but my friend and I think it might have something to do with following the vet's advice to not feed the dog huge portions of rich human foods, but who can say for sure? She's very nationalist and tells me all the time about how """Western medicine""" doesn't work. I almost caused a problem when she invited me over for tea and told me how the tea was grown in Taiwan Province. I'm an idiot so I opened my mouth to say "Oh theres a Taiwan and a Taiwan Province??"
