Just beat the storyline of Siralim Ulimate. It took me about 10 hours and then the game is designed around a massive end game. I'm slowly unlocking all the class and I have been pretty impressed so far. None of them seem like duds all of them promote unique game play.

I highly recommend it.

Cookie Run Kingdom is the only gacha I have ever played that’s truly generous and no problem being F2P. And then it also offers some things for extremely cheap prices, for a gacha anyway. It’s really not that hard nor takes too long if you want every cookie in the game. Whales are just more likely to have max star cookies but dupes are just some extra stats, not something like Alchemy Stars that can greatly advance a character and would normally be a game I consider generous. Unfortunately the gameplay is nothing you haven’t seen before and basically auto. But it’s lovely having pulls come out of your rear end. There’s no need to skip banners saving or any of that poo poo because you get showered with rewards.

Another Eden as mentioned is fine but it’s not really a gacha. Pulls are hard to come by but it’s ok because the welfare characters are awesome. But I need that gambling gacha juice sometimes. The gacha and rates are actually poo poo in it. At least you don’t need dupes or anything.

it's still pretty fun and they've added a bunch in the last few years that might be worth revisiting; i think there's still active goon clans on every platform and cross play is potentially coming this year (finally)

You can buy void relics with plat
But like half the stuff in warframe's cash shop it's a terrible deal and not at all worth it for something you can easily farm ingame.
(Or just use your platinum to trade for the prime parts directly from other players.)

Relics are gacha. It's a little different in how you get 'rolls' on them (do missions to get them, then do missions to crack them) but it's gacha. Waaaay more lenient than usual gacha mechanics but yeah you can pay money for them and hope you get lucky, or with that recent even, pay for the premium event currency (regal aya) to bypass them entirely and purchase the results.

part of being 'gacha' is not being able to obtain the things involved directly, and being forced to roll randomly to get what you want. not only do you not need to spend money on getting relics, you can buy everything you can get from relics directly and trade for them with other players since it's an mmo

Being able to acquire rolls in-game without spending money is irrelevant - that's literally how all gachas work, give you just enough to get hooked for free and ask for money to get more.

Stuff being freely tradeable instead of account-locked, on the other hand, makes it not a gacha. It's just a regular casino game at that point.

i think you're getting a bad impression of what i meant since you've never played the game -- what i mean is you *never* have to spend money on relics (which are a small part of the game, anyway). i do know that gachas give you limited stuff for free and want you to pay more, but you're never limited on it.

it's just straight up random drops like any other mmo. you do content, you get something at the end, you run it again if the something you get isn't what you want or sell off the thing you got to buy what you want directly. gachas are poisonous because they have chase items and people sink hundreds to thousands of dollars to get them; that's why they *don't* have a cash store to pay $1 to buy the thing you want instead

You can buy almost every ingame resource with the realmoney currency but you typically get pathetically low amounts such that it's absolutely not ever worth it. Warframe's cash shop economy is not tuned very well at all.
There's basically 3 non-cosmetic things in the cash shop that are actually worth your platinum (inventory slots, reactors/catalysts, maybe forma), and then the only other thing you use cash shop currency for is inter-player trading, giving someone 20 platinum for their rare drop so THEY can go use that plat on buying more inventory space or potatoes.

For example the warframe shop sells nearly every gun in the game pre-built for like $15-20 of premium currency, even though most of them you can trivially craft for free with like 15 minutes of work (and a 24 hour wait before it finishes building). It sells 175,000 credits for 90 platinum (about $5), but you can also play a minigame mode for free called The Index that gives 250,000 credits per ~5-7 minute round.
You can pay 75 credits for an "essential cold/heat/electric/toxic mod bundle" that contains the basic weapon mods for each weapon type in that element, but most players will get dozens and dozens of these as random drops and you only ever need 1 of each, so if you're in a clan your buddies will probably just give you all that poo poo for free if you ask rather than spending 300 plat / 20-ish dollars on buying the set.

Above poster is right. I've played Warframe off and on since 2012 and the in-game purchases system is the most sidesteppable I have ever seen in a video game. I have never once spent a dime the entire time. It's kinda bizarre, especially in this day and age.

Maybe my perspective skewed because I have such a plethora of relics to crack which unlock weapons and frame components which are easily turned into plat trading them with other players. As long as there are people trying to max their mastery and build everything I the game, there is an easy source of plat.

The frame slot limit is really limiting at first though and those are probably what I would buy with actual cash if I started over for some reason.

Warframe is very much about the grind, though. Don't get me wrong. That is the game but it is a fun ride.

Call of Antia is a good match-3 gatcha. It's basically an Empires & Puzzles clone, but the gacha isn't nearly as rapey.

My favorite is Another Eden. It's basically the gacha spiritual successor of Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross made by the creator of both. It's a legit JRPG.

The gacha itself is weirdly stingy and generous. Really low rates if your chasing a character, but at the same time since it's all about time travel and parallel timelines you can easily side grade old characters to new versions or 4 stars to 5 stars. I basically have every character I want between that and the 20 bucks every half year event where you get to pick any character.

Unique turn based battle system that I've never seen in another game. The free characters can easily carry you through the story and the Collabs are permanent and Collab characters are all free.

Absolutely terrible UI and QOL though.

Magic Survival just had a pretty major update yo .82, it majorly increased the leveling speed, removed weird ability combinations and replaced them with every spell getting a Trait every 4-5 levels.

Plays a lot more like Vampire Survivor while not being an exact clone. Seems like good changes all around.

Oh nice!

I think this update is kind of a reverse inspiration, they really picked up the pace of the game and made some more interesting options.

I wish they were better at patch notes, though. I was playing some magic survivor, died, took a nap, woke up, read for a bit, booted up magic survivor again and half my abilities had different names and weird level up options and xp globes were spawning way faster and what the gently caress is Lava Wave?

In my half awake state I was trying to figure out which version I had dreamed, and then eventually found some vague patch notes on reddit.

I had the fox from the first area that has a 20% to for each monster to cast the first three damage spell gems and put in gems wherever I could. I tended to kill a few things before they could even react.

That might still be my time at this point but with massive damage traits....

Most of them, yes. There's a couple exceptions... which tend to be the bigger ones.

Antimatter Dimensions is pretty much a pure math 'number go up', Tap Titans has had a pretty solid goon presence over the years for good reason, Egg Inc has a bunch of team mechanics, but the end game gets weirdly Gatcha-y? I bounced off it at that point, but some people are into it.

Soda Dungeon 2 has an actual plot and some interesting rogue-lite elements before it gets into the actual idle grind.

Realm Grinder is older and was really designed as a browser game, but the android version is surprisingly solid. You'll want to follow a guide for a bunch of stuff, it's got different factions which each excel at different things so you'll use Goblins to knock out one achievement but faeries to knock out another, and then later on you'll need the dwarf faction passive bonus combined with Angels for something else... etc.

Pretty much yeah. And it's pretty telling that a lot of these games don't even offer an ad free upgrade. I love me a good idle game but my interest in the genre has been killed from the shameless number of ads.

But imo it's not nearly as offensive as the way slot games shove mtx into your face. Oh boy.

I like Melvor Idle (it's paid), has a little more to it than just number go up. It's made by one guy and was picked up in partnership with RuneScape, which its based on.

Grindquest is a flash game with an acceptableish Android port. Somebody else remade it with the blessing of the original author but I do not remember what it was called and couldn't find it in the app store, maybe it's toast. NEITHER android version has the last 2 content updates.

Both of these are progress quest with extra steps, not exactly idle if that sort of thing is your jam.

What else is worth checking out in this design niche?
