I bought one from Ikea for 3,99€ several years ago and screwed it to the rafters of my wood shed. BOOM no more fetching firewood in the dark. The battery's lasted IDK three years now? Very good diffuser or whatever the gently caress you call it, so lights up the whole space with just one light-emitting diode. How much did you pay?

Looks like I paid $19CAD (unclear from alis orders view whether that's with shipping or not) for three of them, but I was being picky in that I wanted ones with lithium batteries rather than the ones that took AAA. they have 8 leds in them so they're crazy bright and the motion detection is just a little too sensitive - they're at the opposite side of my bedroom but turned on bc I rolled over in my sleep. I'll have to adjust their position lmao

Also they arrived fully charged? I thought you're not supposed to mail charged lithium batteries??

China, king of mail safety.

I imagine the house kits for sale are more advertising placeholders, where the buyer would usually contact the manufacturer and work out their needs. I've been watching Grand Designs New Zealand lately, and they seem to get a lot of bespoke materials and finishings custom-made and delivered from China.

Got a few weeks before opening a dispute I suppose, but I'd rather have the boots.

Quoting myself to say the store I ordered from removed all products and stopped replying, so I did my first ever Ali dispute. Boringly they just refunded my money, no questions asked, no wrangling with the store or nothing. Didn't put me off immediately re-ordering from another store, so the game continues apace!

I wonder if any of the folks printing fake Magic the Gathering cards would be willing to do runs of older sets. I'd love an old school Sliver or Thallid deck. I see a few options for printing individual cards for $3. The descriptions aren't especially clear on what they've got available, I think you have to message them to get more detailed product lists.

They can print any card, but they won't have the same distinctive print density and color saturation of the older cards so they will stick out when placed next to their cards from the same era. They work great for casual games but don't try to use them in a non-proxy tournament.

You can message a seller and they will generally ask you to send them a spreadsheet that contains what cards and what printing of that card you want.

You’ve hit the nail on the head. I went through a few of them and all/almost all with a description say “contact us on email/phone/app before ordering” and a bunch say “Ali cannot arrange delivery, some fixtures/fittings may be delivered through Ali mail but the [main product] house/building will needs to be organised directly with us and will be to your nearest port. You need to organise delivery from the port to final location”

I got a couple of pocket operators recently-ish and been looking for a way to protect them rather than just throwing them in a backpack.

Picked up this cheap little hard case (intended for hard drives) that fits one with some accessories. I really like it and ordered a couple more now. Also bought the stylish lanyard for it, it’s nothing special but the case comes with a thin, plain grey lanyard that sucks.

If you’re looking at the lanyards, the blue Operator was fine. The black Following your dreams was fine. The orange WARNING! smelt like poo poo and needed to be washed but is now okay. I also bought these Remove before flight ones but they haven’t arrived yet.

On a lark I tried to get a kilo of silver nitrate from Alibaba. The price was good, but only because they were going to mislabel it as something else to evade Customs/proper hazardous goods shipping.

I did not place the order.

The smaller 20' "pods" are definitely a real thing you can order from AliBaba. There's a business near me that sells them assembled and wired up for electricity for something like AU$10k, I think they come flat-packed with several in a 20' container.

Mini review: I bought some cheap earbuds - the catchily named Lenovo ThinkPlus LivePods LP1S. There appear to be dozens of very different Lenovo branded earbuds all for the same price, so I just bought some at random. They cost a shade under £15 all inclusive and shipping to England took 12 days.

They don't feel cheap at all. The build quality is solid and the case, with its magnet latch and metal hinge, feels really nice. I bought them so I could listen to podcasts at work and the sound quality is perfectly adequate for that. They pair with my iPhone effortlessly. The touch controls are a bit fussy, but they work.

Very impressive considering they cost so little.

Got these carbon fiber (allegedly) bottle cages on Ali for ~$20. They look great from far, although they're not perfectly trimmed or finished. I haven't gotten to use them yet, but I'm willing to gamble my bottles for the cheap -gramz. I figure this is one of the lowest-risk bike parts to really cheap out on.

My biggest tip would be to avoid any seller that sells fake branded stuff.

My theory is that the unbranded sellers are just reselling OEM stuff, whereas the counterfeiters are probably doing all the dodgey poo poo like selling seconds or whatever.

Also sellers that let you option branded spokes/hubs are probably legit.
