So he gave Picard a tour of an alternate present, "the end of the road not taken"... in hopes that Picard would steal the Borg Queen, the Borg Queen would correctly identify the point of timeline divergence, and the crew would successfully time travel by their own means to correct that divergence. All so Picard could voluntarily leave the key in the wall, in the past. That is a hell of a lot of variables to hinge a plan on (one might call it a "very poorly-written" plan) but okay! And I still can't figure out the point of anything Q was doing in 2024. Picard stopped being a "look at the screen and pay attention" show before it was made but season 2 is when I learned my lesson. Can I ask what the gently caress is up with that key? I don't remember it coming up before, I can't think of a situation where it would be needed, and I think it might tie into that whole picard trauma thing. Actually, if it ties into that, don't answer. gently caress all that poo poo lmao, didn't happen at all AFAIK

The theme music to Strange New Worlds is just a washed out version of the 60s theme. While I like that they are trying to take Trek back to its roots, I wish they had composed something more vivid and memorable. TNG, DS9, and Voyager all had great memorable themes.

Yeah I think in a few years the show will be buried and forgotten, folks aren't going to be recommending it to anyone, not bringing it up in TNG or captain picard discussions. Stewart was basically playing an entirely new character. I don't recall any moments where he acted or sounded like Picard, I do remember one scene where he was walking through a room of echoes of Picard acting like Picard, but he made a deliberate choice to play this new person instead even after the reminder. My reflections after the finale: This rancid season could have been several minutes shorter if they hadn’t separately credited about 20 different executive producers in the intro. Wesley is still a nerd. Q’s last ounce of power being expended resurrecting Elrond or whoever is not satisfying.

The Picard finale was bad because its rapid-fire resolution of every plot arc, which sometimes involved just explaining how something will be a good end off-screen, made me imagine a series where each of those arcs were one or two episodes long and told mostly sequentially. A finale episode where everything had already been mostly tied up already so they spend the majority of the episode on the Stargazer figuring out how to work with the new Borg to stop the crisis would have been great! It doesn’t invalidate the fact that I liked the rest of the season but it really left me on a sour note.

So q sent picard to an alternate future just so he would go back into the past to try and fix it ... in order to finally allow himself to get over childhood trauma? And along the way he fucks with soong to do shenanigans so that it would lead to him attacking the chateau with borg mercanaries... (that end up embedded in the walls and is never once addressed at all by the picard family for the rest of time) When he could have just snapped his fingers and did none of this to give picard this 'gift' before q dies. Seriously I can't believe human beings wrote it, spent millions of dollars shooting this idea, and no one took the time to say "hey, none of this makes one goddamn bit of sense at all" G-III fucked around with this message at 21:31 on May 7, 2022 |

Clearly it's just a visual metaphor for him accepting his future/past but it's still a bad one!

I guess now DS9, Game of Thrones, and The Sopranos are now bad because of questionable endings? oooooookay Ever since Game of Thrones ended and the post-bad-finale fires calmed, I've only ever seen people talk about the show in relation to the upcoming shows existing. I've not seen anybody reflect positively on how great the show was until it got bad. I've only seen people reflect poorly on the final 2 seasons and awful finale. Similarly, Mr. Robot and Legion are shows I rarely see people talk about, all because they had really poor closure scenarios that invalidated much of what occurred during the show. Spending the majority of Picard Season 2 in modern day LA for absolutely zero good reason does, in fact, make Picard a bad show.
