So uhhh.... I actually just finished S1 of MiA yesterday, and was planning to ask how the manga compares (was planning to read it after S2 finished) but it seems ADRW consensus is that it hard-steers into misery-porn? Confirm/deny?

Like, I've read half of Gantz (admittedly like back in 2006) and that's was a good line in the sand of hosed-up poo poo I'd tolerate. Then again I'm not an edgy 18 year old anymore so probably tolerate a lot less now.

yeah while I was digging around for information and finding stuff like those quotes about the "child using a living toilet", "live abortion eating" and something about an "alley scene" that I decided was best not to look into if it's being alluded to vaguely while stuff like the other poo poo is being outright stated, there was a lot of consensus that the manga is just grim and bleak and getting worse and worse with no end. Even if you could look past all of the creep poo poo (you shouldn't look past it, don't read this thing) it sounds like it's just misery for the sake of misery because the author gets off on it.

From the many many posts I�ve now had to read on the subject, the anime reportedly censors some of the worst aspects of the manga. Those things are present throughout the manga and I�d imagine given that things like body horror exist in the early stuff that it will continue being miserable. There won�t be a new manga thread to discuss it here.

i don't expect you to know every anime and manga released but i also very much know that reports and pms are missed and that you should probably read the reported post before approving a ban

Sucks because I actually enjoyed the setting and production values, along with Ouzen (love Oohara Sayaka's VA work). I just wasn't sure if this was going to develop into a tale of redemption (to balance the grim-reality shown towards the end of S1) or end-up an unfinished mess :smith:

Reading over that sentence, it's hard to disagree with the motion to ditch the series entirely. Not without frustration, because the setting of it is genuinely good. I do not understand what it is that compels creators to inject otherwise decent works with their hosed up fetishy garbage.

Are there some better shows out there with the same kind of fantastical journey-into-the-unknown, alien-setting-that-exists-by-it's-own-rules adventure stories? I'm drawing a blank because it seems like most fantasy these days is overwhelmed by isekai.

Moving forwards to the future , it�d be helpful if when people have a concern that they use the report function or PMs. I know that this is something awful and the baseline is to assume that the mods don�t listen, but coming to me or whoever the other mod winds up being with with concerns first is the best.

If you must post concerns directly in the thread it really helps me if you write some words as well rather than just smileys. This forum has a history of people doing drivebys to get a reaction, so something like �I found these reviews and I think we need to talk about this� helps keep people calm.

The MiA author gives me some serious creep vibes. I ended up dropping the Manga, and I'm hoping the anime is slightly more watchable. Not that I have high hopes, there's plenty of pretty unnecessary gross creep poo poo in the anime as well
