Starsfan posted:

I see that Florida picked up Rudolfs Balcers who San Jose cut for... no particular reason at all. That's kind of an interesting dynamic when the Stanley cup contender team is signing the dude that the bottom 5 club cut from their roster..

Florida's made a couple understated but really solid depth forward pick ups in Nick Cousins and Balcers, and they have a few interesting reclamation projects with Colin White and the Staal brothers. They are 3 mill over the cap atm though so they might have to do a Vegas style dump at some point? unless someone is heading to the IR I don't know about.

Balcers is a decent player, but the dude cannot finish to save his life. I figure Grier got rid of him to free up more cap space, although from what I recall, Balcers didn't have a huge contract. Maybe he's trying to change the dynamic of the team to be a bunch of 3rd line grinders like he was. Weird move, but maybe he finds his game in Florida.

Once other good players start leaving and fan support starts dwindling, I wouldn’t be shocked to start hearing rumblings about Houston or Kansas City.

Don't worry, Markstrom will drag the team to mediocrity and the Flames will just miss the playoffs year after year. This will be taken as a sign that "the core is totally good enough" and management won't consider a re-build until everybody gets fired.

St. Louis has to resign almost all of their forward next year. They could easily afford Perron this year, but that contact is unworkable past this year.

I saw some wild trivia yesterday that this is Perron's 6th team in his 16-year career, and the first contract he signed with a team other than the Blues.

I think I'm starting to see the problems with jfresh's model as Burakovsky mostly played on Colorado's 2nd line and occasionally on the first. Except when he wasn't playing well where he would disappear into a black hole on the bench.

I"m guessing he's going purely off TOI and also guessing Burakovsky didn't get a ton of power play time to bump that up

I hear he’s loving terrible but at worst he’s 4th line center and best he’s buried in Hartford and someone else gets that spot

Is he loving terrible? I saw some fancy charts on twitter that basically said he's loving terrible at creating or driving any offense, but he's good at stifling the opponent's offense. One of those "when he's on the ice, nothing happens, for either team" type players.

Which...I guess he's replacing Rooney who was a PK specialist, so that's good?

Except he was 4th in time on ice for Colorado forwards. He drops to 8th in Toi/gp but that's pretty much down to him not playing pk and there was no overlap between Lehkonen and Landeskog being in the lineup

the THRILL
Bunch of rumours today linking the Sens to Klingberg.

He's the only worthwhile free agent RD on the market, buuuuut I really don't see why he's even being considered by Ottawa.

The top 4 this year will have Chabot and Sanderson on the left, and Zub and ??? on the right. I can't see Klingberg's offense-first, no-defense style meshing with Chabot, who is one of the most free-ranging rover-style defencemen in the NHL, and I don't think it's fair to saddle rookie Sanderson with the job of trying to clean up after Klingberg. He's an A+ level prospect, but he's still a prospect.
