We know about those hysterical "IF YOU DON'T DONATE RIGHT NOW TRUMP'S GONNA WIN" fundraising e-mails, but those things are A/B tested to hell so they probably have pretty good evidence that the screaming, terrified emails rake in more cash than the staid, reasonable ones. Left-of-center people like to scare themselves about politics and therefore reporters write articles about how Democrats are never going to win ever again and those articles get huge engagement. Same principal behind Bret Stephens or David Brooks at the NYT: Republicans don't read the New York Times oped page, Stephens is there to get hate clicks and tons of Twitter engagement as everyone gets off their QT dunks and we all get wormier brains.
