Kinda sorta Australiana. I currently teach Junior High School English in Japan. And in todays lesson I was explaining cartoon characters to practice simple short sentences. (He is strong. She can fly. He can play football. etc.) Well, these Japanese students have no problem with a character who has a bun filled with red-bean paste for a head, (Anpanman), or a different character that is a magical blue robot cat wizard from the future, (Doraemon). Yet they were baffled and scandalized by the very concept of anthropomorphized fruit wearing sleepwear indulging in games of hide and seek with teddy bears on a weekly basis. (Bananas in Pajamas.)
