Thanks for the sale reminder! I haven't bought anything in months and now I realized I have two cars but only one 12v USB charger.

I want something with PD 12V @ 2A at least, as that would let me charge my laptop too, and 15V would be nice to have.

Baseus has two models. This is ok:

This is better:

They even cost the same... but the second one has $5 shipping which makes it twice the cost of the first one :argh: has anyone seen a charger that can legit do it? Many are just bullshit fake "60W" nonsense.

Id' go with a brand name like anker or something for anything that plugs in, not worth saving $5 on something that can gently caress up your $900 phone.

What's the worst thing it could do, burn down my $600 car??

It's a fair point, but we don't have Anker here and I think Baseus is about as legit as Blitzwolf, which has been solid in my experience so I'm willing to risk it :v:

I tried them for a while with my prior (8 year old) phone, and they collected little magnetic fragments (from my pockets?) constantly. You can't brush them out since they get inside a groove on the connectors and stop them from connecting. You can pick them out with a toothpick but it's a pain. Still kept the phone running a bit longer, the USB port on it was really dodgy in its later years.

If they were designed to be 1mm deeper or something, with the terminals above the "gutter" they'd work better since they'd have some crud tolerance.

I looked into the magnetic cables. I think the round headed ones are best for me since you can rotate the cable freely. There are 2 kinds, 1-pin charge only and the 6-pin charge and data.

I brought the 6-pin ones but I probably should have brought the 1-pin, because the 1-pin tips are cheaper you can get a lot of 15 micro tips for $5. I only intend to convert my micro USB things into easier to plug connectors. I got lot of Bluetooth earphones and vape pods i can use them. I don't want to use it on my phone because the tip still extends too much out of my phone case.

It’s not that powerful, but still absurd

The Sun can put down a maximum of about one hundred thousand lumens per square metre on the ground.

So a device of this power would light one hectare (two and a half acres) as bright as noon in the Atacama Desert, and in doing so it would consume enough electricity to run several thousand homes.

Yeah they probably all use the same cheapest LED driver, and for a long time it seemed many of the better one had the Cree T6 LED too so the difference was really down to the case or battery situation. I'm curious about this G3 thing now.

Another thing I've been looking to get is a 30W powerbank that can also charge my laptop if needed. It kind of works with the 10Ah USB-PD and my work laptop but not my personal one, and only to keep it from discharging. I think it needs at least 12V/2A and it was actually quite difficult to find since most smaller power banks are 18W, and then you have huge 60W beasts that are heavy and expensive. Romoss seems to have some good options here:

10Ah:

I ordered two for my kiddo, who's going on a school trip to Europe next summer. When I asked how many characters would fit per line on the reverse, the seller said they'd put whatever I wanted on there; maybe that meant they'd just make the font smaller, maybe it was a canned non-answer. We'll see!

I think I'm done with the car charger adventures, going to yolo with this one:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004701250942.html

There's an identical looking Baseus one, but from the reviews it seems that all the 45W chargers can't actually boost the voltage to 15/20v if you're on a 12v system. So I'm guessing the best I'd be able to get is 36W which is fine. Pretty funny that you can spend two days searching for a $5 charger.

I know you are essentially asking for a much cheaper version of this, but I have had this battery for a long time and it does exactly what you need.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B089D4176K

Currently $200, which is appalling because I paid about half that 2 years ago. It will go on sale again someday. Works great, Anker quality, and the included charger/cable are useful as a compact (laptop) power cord.

There's a bunch of decent rechargeable flashlights sold on AE, they're just not typically the dirt-cheap "1billion lumen" models. Wurkkos (FC11) and Sofirn (SP36 Pro) are two brands I've purchased before and they're fantastic. Realistic lumen ratings, reasonable user-interface (IE, button does what you want, seizure mode is available but easy to never use), and well built.

You can generally buy them from their own websites or Amazon for similar prices though.

It looks like a good powerbank with 60W but $200 is pretty :eyepop: lol.

The 30W one will do ok I think. It's not something I need for the laptop all the time, just on long flights or on vacations sometimes. Plus I can give the one I have to my parents who've been asking for a recommendation.

It was a bit of an ordeal with this one actually, I had it in the basket and thought I'll make the order after work. Well after work it sold out apparently, and instead of free shipping from Belgium there's $5 shipping from Spain, and only 3 pieces left. Still went for it as it seemed to be the best option regardless, and got a $5 coupon applied, so not too bad.

Another thing that happened is that my cart was way too expensive, like twice as much as it should be, just based on the crap I had in it. I unselected all items and then only ordered the powerbank and a few other things I needed most. Turns out there's some sort of fuckery going on with this charger:
