Are any of the cheap Chinese mechanical keyboards recommended? Anything on Ali? My mechanical from 2013 just died and it was the cheapest one out there at the time ($80). I was shocked to see there are options as low as $30 now.

I fully support your decision to do this but when you can buy a new decent keyboard for sometimes $15 with a mouse wireless and seeing my work keyboard, that I literally only spend a few hours a week on and it’s nasty…I shudder

are there any of the temu USB-C magetic cables that are USB-C on both ends, and that don't catch fire/are actually capable of providing full USB-C power?

it'd be awesome if i could run my laptop and poo poo off those also. the ones i got have USB-A ends, which i assume limits them to slow/low power

I wouldn’t mess with that, I got a ravpower c brick and a c to c nice braided canoe and it is fantastic. But I used it on a dumb no name power bank with c input and it swelled. My go laptop and other name brand c devices have been great with it. I would not think 65 watt plus would be wise at this point with those magnetic adapters

I dont know where you are in the world but if oyu are in Australia check out the Kogan branded ones with (your flavour of switch). They go for about $40 and I have 3 of them now across my home systems and work.

Some cheap brands still make okay boards. The main thing is the switches. The cheap keyboards won't have too many features or sound dampening or anything but if you just want mech switches there's brands like Royal Kludge, Havit, etc on Amazon and probably from other sellers, too.

I know this is the aliexpress thread, but I picked this Havit board up for $40 on amazon a week back and it's decent.

I mostly got it for the rounded over spacebar and PBT keycaps but the unusual layout is alright, too. The main downsides are no lighting and soldered MX Red switches (I prefer clicky). A lot of the higher end boards have hotswap sockets now so you can pull out switches and put in different kinds, but even those are $100 or sometimes less, depending on what you're buying.

No giant ISO return key, that's a hard pass from me. You're not really running commands if you don't get to smash a giant return key at the end of each one.

Had my first “what the gently caress did I order on Ali two months ago” early Christmas today. Turns out a lot of stickers mostly. And a jinhao X450 or something like that. And two pencil cases. And stencils (??). And four purple flyswatters. Do I need four fly flyswatters? Nope.

I wish I could say that’s the last time I place an order after vaping some green, buuutttt

That just means it's at your post office. A lot of counties don't do door to door mail delivery so they just say to go pick it up.

EE is in Toronto like me and we do have mail delivery. I've never seen that message either from Ali, even for larger packages or stuff that actually is at the post office. Usually Canada Post will leave a little door hanger gimmick telling you that you have something and which post office to go to.

EE, probably go through Canada Post for this one too see where it's at.

After going through the dialogue tree with "Eva" and selecting "this answer is useless" I had an option to speak to an agent pop up.

I bought this, which looks to have exactly the same layout as yours and a slightly different color scheme. It came with a couple extra switches (red) and I swapped one out because the original switch was a little wonky. Honestly it's a pretty great keyboard. I've been using it for a little over a week and my only complaints are that the number pad is a little "too efficient", I miss Fn->right arrow, and it's a little loud for the office.

I don't know about full USB power delivery - might be iffy through the magnetic connection, though Apple seems to do fine with their proprietary MagSafe stuff.

I can say that this cable works in general. I got the 1 cable, 3 different tips variety.
I got mine yesterday, and CarPlay in my car was happy with data and power transmission, and a second one used to charge my Xbox controller worked fine as well. Delivery took 10 days.

The listing shows two different styles of cables. What I got are the ones with the chromed ends, braided cable. Seems decent - time will tell. The tip clears the opening on my phone case, as advertised as a benefit in the listing. Interestingly, all the pictures show 4 pins on the tips/cables, but mine have 5, with one end pin being slightly separated and larger. Perhaps for the "3A" capacity? Main issue I have with that is that now I know I can't go by the pictures if I want to see if another brand on Ali or Amazon are compatible, so the previous advice form someone here to buy from the same listing if resupplying is probably sound.

I also ordered a set each of USB-C female to USB-A male and vice versa adapters, and they both worked as advertised. Aluminum body, seems pretty solid.

edit:
These were 3'/1m cables, BTW.
Pricing on these USB cables from Temu isn't particularly enticing. It was $6 per with 3 tips, now $8 because they're sold out of black and only have red? I'm looking at similar on Amazon priced at $17.60 for 3x 1m cables with 3 tips each, and I can get them delivered tomorrow. A bit more for 2m versions.

The fastest charging speed I see for magnetic cable is 6A. You can find those on aliexpress. I don't want to test it tbh.

BTW I put a magnetic charging tip on my phone, which supports fast charging. It charges a lot faster on a dedicated usb plug than connect to my surface laptop's external dock. Like 2-3 times faster. There are so many faster charging standards and names on different phone I just give up.

Oh yeah for the goon who asked for usbc to usbc magnetic cable, just saw this

Glad to hear that things are working nicely! If you don't mind me asking, what were you intending to get instead of the wired base? I'm thinking of replacing my keyboard and was considering something along these lines, either a hotswap base and build my own or just buy a premade.

Turns out I didn't screw up, I was just confused and there's not a wireless barebones yet. The TES68 has a wired+RF+Bluetooth version and I got the two mixed up because AliExpress. CIY also offers a complete TES84 setup in wireless, but it only comes in one switch type and in a white colorway for the base and keys. I assume eventually it'll be available barebones and I can just score one then if this works out. Wired's fine, just would have been a nice perk to pair it with my tablet or whatever. One less battery to keep track of.

Perk of the prefab is you get all the functions marked out for stuff like wireless toggles and the like on the default keys. There's nothing all that important on the wired, just LED control and you can do that in the app anyway.

Looks like my shipping weirdness was due to the orders being combined because I got a big package of a whole bunch of things at once. Looks like they combined them a bit too well, because I also got someone's crucifix by mistake.

Another strange thing I noticed is that the site never processed my removing a pair of bike lights from the cart, so now I'm getting four identical ones. At least mostly identical, one of them has a burned out LED, but since they're indistinguishable, I don't know what store to leave the review with.
