I'm not saying the org knew about it, but it would explain why they are so shy about going all in on their generational talent that is also the face of the franchise after a historic offensive season. Also makes you wonder what else the league has done to put their thumb on the scale for NYY. (I mean besides helping them coverup their 2015-2016 sign stealing scheme whereby they would use video to steal catchers signs whenever they had a runner in scoring position both home and away, going so far as to allow them to anonymize their fine in the form of "Hurricane Sandy" relief. )

I like the Bellinger signing. Worst case, he's a plus defensive outfielder and they burn some money in a year where they've got money to burn. Best case, he figures out his mechanics and he's a potential MVP candidate. Cubs fans have some experience watching a plus defensive outfielder lefty who might just be able to hit again maybe, hopefully.
