Anyone have a recommendation for cheap small and bright flashlights? I need one for when I walk the dog at night. I’d like to buy a few incase I misplace one.

Head torch for two-handed dog control

Saw a facebook ad for a head-torch using a strip of bright LEDs and they were asking like forty quid for it - My 'cheap from china' radar pinged and a little bit of searching later:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002754020984.html

£7, much more reasonable . I ordered two and they arrived today, and if you need a head-mounted light they are very much worth the money - light, comfortable to wear, good and bright and fairly solidly constructed. Leaving one in my go-bag and one at home in the tool cupboard.

edit: hmm in GBP =

one torch 7.99
two torches 16.26 (more expensive per unit)
three torches 17.74 (far cheaper per unit)

???

They airfreighted it for some reason. 5-6 weeks is the usual delivery time for :australia:. These things came in 9 days.

Connecting a 18650 battery makes quite a nice arc. Very loud.

Have not touched the spark yet.

And they were like $2 each...

Depends what your definition of cheap is. I just bought this 2-pack with zero research and I'm pretty happy with them so far. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072WHQFJ7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I would suggest reading about flashlights on reddit for a few days and then spending 10x whatever you originally intended as your gateway to becoming an obsessive flashlight collector

Thanks I think that works! $19 for two is a decent enough deal for me.

This was my experience with office chairs and it was so intimidating I gave up before purchase and am still rolling the one I have between my (gaming) bedroom and my office as it slowly falls apart shedding it's plastic covering in its wake.

A lot of vendors give those flashlights away for free when you buy an 18650 battery online, because it's cheaper to ship a lithium battery inside a device than to ship it alone.

You can definitely find them cheaper, and they'll be the exact same junk.

Some thing like this is going to be 2-3x as bright, 10x as durable and comes with a usb-c rechargeable battery.

No no, see, that is a tactical flashlight. What he needs is a strategic one. One that can light up a city on a neighboring continent.

That's not very aliexpress!

I've had this one for years, it's very solid and bright, I can't imagine a normal person needing something brighter than that. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002082329323.html

It works from 3xAAAs or an 18650, but there are USB-rechargable versions too: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002353286817.html

I ended up grabbing one off Amazon from a brand called Wuben that I quite like. USB-C charging, uses an 18650 with a built-in protection circuit, has great brightness.

It's also available on Ali. I just went Amazon since it was only an extra 2-3 bucks and that seems fair for not waiting a month. https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256803030599411.html

Wuben makes decent lights, I prefer the rectangular form factor on their more recent lights. I bought a bunch of Wuben G3 keychain lights a few weeks ago because they were on sale for ~$7, and are 500 lumens in the size of a matchbox (those generic zoomable lights people are posting are about 600 lumens with a 18650, and 3-400 on AAAs)

I appreciate a good flashlight.

I can’t imagine it’s as fun with mostly LEDs so nothing bursts into flame at (seemingly) random.

Temu suggested these gel turlet stamps that are supposed to deoderize it and I'm tempted to order some to try because they seem ridiculous because they probably get gross depending on how sticky they are.

The way it has notches on the plunger so you have to give them a 1/8th of a turn or whatever to ensure you only dispense just enough that you need is simple but also really clever, I think.
