In Iran itself doesn't seem to be anything new, just stuff simmering on as it has, government clamp down on any reporting outside social media word of mouth makes it difficult to really know how extensive and dangerous the protests are, though they are definitely widespread. Outside of Iran there was a big demonstration in Berlin drawing in members of the Iranian (especially Kurds) from all over Europe, I think it was about 80 000 people, back in December.

The clash kind of reminds me the violent protest in Myanmar, which had junta related violent clamp downs 3 times in the last 3 decades. At least in term of the length of the protest is pretty similar to Myanmar. Also how the authoritarian government has a strong hold on the army and part of the security force and some core profitable business but much less so to other part of the society.

https://twitter.com/cnn/status/1400487451311984653 Oil refinery in northern Iran on fire as well. Seems extremely likely that Israel is actively discouraging Iran from exporting weapons, but Bibi will also kick that dog whenever he thinks no one is really paying attention ; EDIT comedy take - Israel sees Iran as competition for Russia's arms market, so they did the needful
