Also there is a huge loving difference between depleted uranium armor and the composite armor on the export variant. Most of the export variants don't have the same engine, optics, or computer package the American variant does; however, I think the version sold to the Saudis uses the American optics.

I dont think the depleted uranium armor is super secretive or likely to be much more effective than whats on a modern leopard 2. The abrams has been offered with DU armor for export several times and the customers / potential customers have turned it down before.

There's a difference between somebody somewhere in the U.S. being able to crack russian encryption (and maybe or maybe not sharing parts of it with someone who might or might not share parts of that with someone who might or might not share parts of that with you) and being able to listen to russian orders in real time.

I'm starting to come around to the idea that more than M1 Abrams and Leopards, Ukraine probably needs shitloads of modern AFVs like the Bradley with updated optics. I think Ukraine has plenty of ATGMs, T-72 variants and so on. So if the Bradley does the spotting and reconnaissance backed by infantry and their TOW missiles the T-72s should be able to do their job well enough in an offensive capacity where required. It's not perfect but it could allow for things like night assaults where tight communication between the tanks and western style AFVs allow them to be the eyes for the tanks who can coordinate their fire for effect. It's an extremely strange army where two vehicles designed to counter eachother are working side by side to fight others.
