Oh hey, here's another new thing from thread favorites IN FLAMES. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_MSqS1-Ubs Actually not too bad. The chrous is a little too soft for my liking sounding like post-Clayman when they tried appealing to more mainstream stuff though.

Vintersorg posted:Oh hey, here's another new thing from thread favorites IN FLAMES. Yeah this is pretty decent, but The Great Deceiver is a legit banger IMO. After the first few singles came out, I went back and listened to all of their post-Clayman stuff and it's hilarious how awful the past 3-4 albums have been. Like, most of them didn't have even one redeeming song on it. I think Come Clarity is the last one where there were a couple tolerable/decent songs on it.

Finally listened to the new Obituary. Always loved their sense of groove and they still got it. New Hellripper song is great and I honestly didn't mind the new In Flames song, but honestly if I get the itch to listen to In Flames these days I usually just throw on The Jester Race.

Thanks a lot for the recs, y'all have given me a lot of great stuff to listen to!Groke posted:My brother in doom, have you listened to Procession? Henchman of Santa posted:The Messa album from last year. Uncle Boogeyman posted:Magic Circle I wasn't into this at first—he sounds like a doom metal Chester Bennington—but these vocals are really growing on me. He's taking this tonality that I've only really heard tenor metal singers get, and pulling it way down into the baritone range. It takes a ton of control to mix that breathiness into a belt in the low end. There's a bunch of different musculatures that go into these different styles of breath support, and he just switches between them like a classical guitarist doing chord changes. Impressive diversity of vocal sounds between the tracks on this album. Doomsword fuckin' rules but let's be honest about the vocals, they're like an immaculately constructed Homercar Solefald posted:This! Yeah, something about his voice reminds me a lot of Dio. I think it's how, like you said, he jumps around between all these different registers and levels of grit and vibrato etc and somehow makes it all sound effortless and cohesive, rather than like a guy trying to ape a bunch of different singers. Their second album is rad too, but it's got a bit more trad metal DNA and the vocals are more consistently on the gritty end. They're rad live too.

I wasn't totally into what they were doing on Death Magnetic or Hardwired (outside of the opening track to Hardwired, which sounds like a Kill 'Em All B-side and kind of rules) but it at least had some energy.
