I thought your question was fine, I don't know much about this case either, I am guessing it was from one of the M25 sit-ins that they did.

I can kind of understand a motive from the judge as well, if he were to make a ruling either way where the argument was if it is ok to do something based on climate change it opens a shitstorm for future precedent. Imagine being the judge that effectively makes it illegal to protest based on the environment 20 years from now.

On the other hand, IANAL, so unless somebody actually explains something like they would to a child rather than post a single smiley fly-by then I'm just guessing at most of these things too.

Western governments are going to hit climate protesters hard to nip things in the bud. They know whats coming and they are going to get absolutely barbaric to control climate unrest

despite what shitlibs may believe its not like the court is some kind of neutral institution enforcing heaven-sent justice, so questioning whether the law is right or not is absolutely something you should be allowed to do in court

Yeah basically all climate protesters so far have got off due to jury nullification so judges are cracking down hard to make that impossible

I once argued that the law is an rear end in court. I did shut up when the judge told me I'd be in contempt if I continued though. They're there to apply the law, not to change it.

I am arresting you for protesting about climate change. If you mention climate change in your defence I send you to jail. I'm no big city lawyer but in no way does that seem reasonable.

the met's coverup might have been slapstick levels of incompetent, taking years and multiple enquiries to find a trustable stooge that wasn't invoicing MyCrimes.Txt to NOTW up til the day they were appointed to whichever investigation, but the fact that everything just went back to normal after Rees' short prison stay does make you think that nobody was stupid/suicidal enough to let some rando PIs have access to anything that would attract interest from the intelligence services. It was all tabloid poo poo, so the murder may have been as simple as "Morgan had enough evidence to nail a bunch of people running a criminal extortion ring against MPs and royals".

Alan Holmes looks way more like the sort of tragic and unforseeable suicide that occus when you have evidence of something a nation state does not want you to have evidence of

They were tried for public nuisance. The specific nuisance was gluing themselves to a road or something and blocking the public from use of the road.

Don't worry. They're still allowed to protest about climate change all they want, they've just got to do it in such a way that it doesn't cause any disruption or inconvenience or accomplish anything. Hold up a sign, walk around in a circle, chant some slogans (not too loud though, I might spill my tea)

I don't know about this specific case. When I see this, however, my assumption is that someone was in front of a judge to defend whether they did something or not, regardless of why, or whether it was justified.

Was there something about this case that made the reason for a protest relevant, or a valid defence?
