That's the thing. Whatever is bouncing around in their peabrains is stupid af. Even if they have dramatically more power than anyone else, they cannot become any stronger than they are, because they are literally destroying their military, their international position as the center of finance, and all the material production that would let them do poo poo anyway without that. They may get to still be on top at home and get to grind people's faces in the mud, but they're gonna be more accountable by the foreign governments they have less leverage on each year, more precarious in their status, and generally just have to settle for second, third, then fourth banana at every turn, being reminded again and again of their fall no matter how much they plug their ears and yell, and eventually one of them is gonna get tired of that and knife the others for a place at the big boys table.

They don’t seem to get that, so thinks will get p cool imo. I think 1991 followed by nothing happening to them in 2008 means a generation of them have never faced real danger and they don’t understand that their actions are bringing it about. e: The military is a perfect example because that was 100% an own goal. They forgot what a military does and treated it like every other institution or function of the state and now they’re in a real bind.

Certainly, but the problem is they've sealed the lid and have been shaving the walls for a while because it let them buy a larger hit of coke with the scrap price, and the dead crabs are about to blow the thing apart with their death gases. The crabs aren't getting out, but the bacteria that intend to ferment the remains may get splattered all over. I dunno I just like messing up metaphors.

As far as doing something, maybe a foreign company will eventually lure a government in the future into not being able to misbehave as much in exchange for a cut. What comes next will either wash away liberalism (again) or transcend it. Could be fascism, could be Bonapartism, could be Socialism. Predicting it is pointless, the leaders of this next cadre will very likely not be known to us now or in the current ruling cadre. Doesn’t matter. Capitalist don’t get together in on big room to plan the world economy, they get in little rooms to plan how to gently caress people over in their little fiefdoms. Any planning to keep the US-centric capitalist world order ticking has to contend with the millions of little parasites trying to get rich in the short term while sacrificing the long term. Certainly some of the more forward-thinking oligarchs go to davos and say “hey, maybe we should cut back a bit so we can continue to leech off this system,” but nothing changes. In the past capitalists knew that you have to provide something to regular people to keep them fat and docile, and that’s what they did in the 1950s when they had communism to contend with. Now they’re allowed to run hog wild. Parasites do best when they know how to not kill the host, but when they’re allowed to drink as greedily as they want, the outcome is inevitable.

Not in the sense that they want to die individually, but in the sense of a class death, a destruction of the liberal ideology and the structures that give it shape and by which it is defined. The sinking empire still has time using its colonies as flotation devices. Maybe the unprecedented level of capitalist development will create an unprecedented conditions for class consciousness and organization. At least, that's what I tell myself. Semi related, been rereading Imperialism and this quote stuck out to me: quote:As we have seen, the deepest economic foundation of imperialism is monopoly. This is capitalist monopoly, i.e., monopoly which has grown out of capitalism and exists in the general environment of capitalism, commodity production and competition, in permanent and insoluble contradiction to this general environment. Nevertheless, like all monopoly, it inevitably engenders a tendency to stagnation and decay. Since monopoly prices are established, even temporarily, the motive cause of technical and, consequently, of all progress, disappears to a certain extent and, further, the economic possibility arises of deliberately retarding technical progress. For instance, in America, a certain Owens invented a machine which revolutionized the manufacture of bottles. The German bottle-manufacturing cartel purchased Owens' patent, but pigeonholed it, refrained from utilizing it. Certainly, monopoly under capitalism can never completely, and for a very long period of time, eliminate competition in the world market (and this, by the by, is one of the reasons why the theory of ultra-imperialism is so absurd). Certainly, the possibility of reducing cost of production and increasing profits by introducing technical improvements operates in the direction of change. But the tendency to stagnation and decay, which is characteristic of monopoly, continues to operate, and in certain branches of industry, in certain countries, for certain periods of time, it gains the upper hand. Stagnancy and decay indeed.

Mexico is probably the only country left that America can actually win a war against but that would require a draft and a willingness of the american people to sacrifice their lives. Frankly, I can't imagine any significant portion of the population willing to do that. The youth have 0 regard for the state. It may end like Vietnam all over again.

the half life for methanol in surface water is ~24 hours because bacteria can digest it. it is sometimes deliberately added in water treatment aeration basins as a carbon source. the problem is that much much nastier poo poo gets barged up the river. Most of the liquid supply of 50% NaOH to the northern states goes by barge.

Cpt_Obvious posted:is methanol flammable? Does it sink or float? yes it's flammable but not when diluted in a bunch of water. it doesn't form a separate oil phase and instead just mixes in with water because it's polar enough (and has low enough molecular weight) to associate directly with water molecules through hydrogen bonding
