Not clicking on a vox article, are they concern trolling about a couple of Twitter nobodies with hammer and sickle next to their names praising him for his anti-imperialist stances? Because those are the only people I have seen on the left praising him.

No it's because leftist magazine The American Prospect posted a Tucker curious article with the "hmm maybe we should consider that he had populist appeal" thesis that lefties always fall for with these fascists and got btfoed about it on twitter, such that Daniel Dayen had to issue an apology and promise to run an anti-Tucker counter essay today. https://twitter.com/ddayen/status/1651237936984096769 Look it's literally in the subhed zoux fucked around with this message at 17:11 on Apr 27, 2023 |

Do you think it's worth interrogating that you didn't click on the article so as to not have your previous notions challenged such that you could incorrectly reaffirm your cynicism? I think a lot of people on the left need to consider whether they are for something or just against the Democratic Party, and how well this attitude is serving the movement. https://twitter.com/jacobin/status/1651590774407184385

cat botherer posted:Us hate-clicking articles like that is exactly why outlets keep pumping out ragebait like that. There's no reason to ever think anything it that article would be insightful or even just non-demented. Having clicked on the article, I can confirm this. But it's not about a couple of twitter nobodies, it's about an article in one of the few prominent leftist outlets in the country. Have you read the Prospect article they're talking about? Do you think they're correct that Tucker Carlson's populist appeal is something the left should seek to emulate? Do you give him credit for his "willingness to challenge and mock ruling elites [that] went alongside an obsessively nativist message that alienated viewers who might otherwise have embraced his populist perspective." You might want to make sure you agree with the Tucker Carlson apologia you are indirectly advocating. quote:The show declined to play the gatekeeping role that many of Carlson’s detractors demand of mainstream media platforms. Carlson hosted heads of state in the same week as fringe characters of both the far left and far right. He tapped into populist insights, cutting through left- and right-wing echo chambers and putting hard questions to corporate executives and members of the political establishment. Do you think these kinds of comparisons help or hurt efforts to build the progressive movement quote:“Republican leaders will have to acknowledge that market capitalism is not a religion. Market capitalism is a tool, like a staple gun or a toaster. You’d have to be a fool to worship it,” Tucker said in a typical segment. “Our system was created by human beings for the benefit of human beings. We do not exist to serve markets. Just the opposite.” zoux fucked around with this message at 17:34 on Apr 27, 2023 |

Some dorks writing for the prospect may as well be Twitter nobodies for all the significant media presence leftist media has. And the framing Vox chooses to go with is telling "controversy on the left! (meaning one article got written about a thing and are getting rightfully pilloried for it)." It's just like when RWM picks up on some "loony lefty" poo poo at one college and put out an article to highlight and signal boost it and make it seem like everyone to the left of Mitt Romney agrees. And you're buying it just like the same rubes that hang in Ben Shapiro's every word. The political spectrum punches left. I'd like to know how my decision to ignore garbage media outlets is "indirectly advocating Tucker Carlson apologia."

Having previously worked in libraries for 18 years, I can 100% verify that there is porn there for you to check out. The problem is that it's going to be in the Romance, Art, and Social Sciences sections, not the Children's section. Also depending on the library there may be some adult periodicals, and every library has the internet. At the college I worked at, we had a complete collection of Playboys. At the Public Library I worked at we threw out 1-3 donations of complete Playboy collections every year. No need to rage against the subtext of whatever book is pissing of "concerned parents" this week, there's at least 3 copies of Lady Chatterley's Lover sitting in Adult Fiction for you to peruse.

The county I was working for did end up getting filtering, which did result in hilarious work arounds for the desperate. One dude found an unfiltered site that was all body builders showing off their assets, which was mostly amusing because I had to remind him several times to keep his voice down because he kept talking to himself about how "loving muscle bitches ain't got no titties". I thought the filtering was dumb, since we not only had privacy screens but also had clearly separated childrens and adults computer sections set up on the opposite side of each branch. However old people gonna bitch incessantly at county meetings, and several of the staff at various branches complained about feeling very uncomfortable seeing people looking at porn. Which would usually be fair, but in my mind seeing some titties and dicks is part of the job as a librarian. I mean, you're going to see them in the books you're looking through for damage anyway. Not to mention the surprise roulette of going through the donations. Plus I'll take knowing you like leather daddies any day of the week over realizing by your book selection that you're getting divorced, have cancer, and it's looking terminal.

It's sad, because poor conservatives are often out there living their conditioning, refusing to get assistance, while rich conservatives are out there mainlining the graft. I remember back around when Craig T. Nelson said, "I've been on food stamps and welfare. Did anybody help me out? No!" I was arguing with a friend of a friend that he should try and get unemployment/medicaid for his family. Dude just refused due to a combination of ideological brain worms and toxic masculinity garbage about asking for help being weakness. I'm pretty sure Coach came out with that bon mot during the Great Recession.
