Where parking is limited you might park boxing someone else in. In these scenarios the person who's boxed in will call you using the number on the number thing so you can come out and move your car.

I understand the purpose of displaying your phone number. But those number pads have number 0-9 and call keys? How do you use 0-9 keycap to display your phone number?

Edit: oh they are not in 1-9, you have to tell the seller your number and they custom make the fake keypad for you.

They come with multiples of each number and you set the keypad yourself - I checked a lot of reviews trying to puzzle out why people were displaying their phone numbers in their cars.

Alright huge haul of temu and aliexpress stuff arrived. Here's the haul:

TEMU

A sleep mask with bluetooth - https://www.temu.com/goods.html?_bg...r_page_sn=10045

I bought one very similar to this awhile ago, but it died quite quickly. It was also too thin. This one is the same electronic module (they all are) but the face mask is quite a bit thicker. Hopefully the electronics last longer than a few weeks - I'll report back on comfort

A "macro" lens for my phone.
https://www.temu.com/goods.html?_bg...r_page_sn=10045

I bought this so I could take close up images of electronics, for work. It works, but I think it's just a basic rear end magnification lens. It needs to be right up close to the subject to focus, and it distorts the image a lot around the edges. It's alright if I need to take a close up photo of a very specific part of the board, but it's not even as good as those cheap video microscopes, so I wouldn't bother.

A miniature HD camera, with no WiFi but USB and SD card recording
https://www.temu.com/goods.html?_bg...r_page_sn=10045

So far I've only tried this as a USB webcam, and the picture is very good! a little bit of lens distortion, but crystal clear. I bought this to work out which of my cats is making GBS threads adjacent to, but not in, the litterbox, as it's got nightvision via IR illumination, and a motion detect feature. As it doesn't have WiFi, I don't have to worry about all the sketchy security risks around cheap IP cameras, which is why I got it over those. Now I have to go find an SD card...

Wireless phone charger
https://www.temu.com/goods.html?_bg...r_page_sn=10045

Bought this to charge my phone at my desk, as it's nice to not have to clean out the charging port constantly. Works just fine. Also bought some a USB C cable for this, but it ended up coming with one.

Some plastic vernier calipers
https://www.temu.com/goods.html?_bg...r_page_sn=10045

Awhile back I bought some metal vernier calipers from ali express. They're surprisingly not bad, but they always feel like they're grinding, even after a quick clean, and they have this nasty oily sticky feeling too. I bought a pair of these extremely cheap plastic ones, hoping they'd be no less accurate but not feel so grimy. They feel fine, but they're useless: the divisions into 0.5mm increments mean you're better off using a normal ruler and your eyeball. At least they were so cheap it doesn't matter. I don't really know what I expected!

A scalpel and blades
https://www.temu.com/goods.html?_bg...r_page_sn=10045

I bought this as I use scalpels for modifying circuitboards, and the craft knife I had was a bit poo poo. It's lovely! Came with a bunch of blades, extremely sharp, handle nice and solid. The blades don't perfectly fit in the handle, which is a bit annoying, but once they're in they're in securely. Obviously I would not be impressed if someone tried to use scalpels from temu for surgery, but they're fine for everything else.

ALIEXPRESS

Some bits and bobs for a personal project

A reasonably waterproof solar panel- https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33004299331.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.41.10931802XydB9U

An ESP32 board with on-board lithium battery manager - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004044058524.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.46.10931802XydB9U

A battery - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003653148214.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.72.10931802XydB9U

A box I used as a waterproof enclosure - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004192057075.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.67.10931802XydB9U

The above bits went together with some other stuff I had lying around or ordered elsewhere to make a pretty handy little soil moisture sensor. It's been outside for weeks in all weather without issue, so it's all waterproof enough.
This isn't the right place for a full project build (maybe once I'm done messing with the software I'll make a HCH thread).
But to review: battery is fine and as advertised, ESP32 board is a little janky but works fine, solar panel absolutely does not put out 2W lmfao. I got the 80mm version and it puts out ~200mW max (1/10th of advertised lol). This is fine for my project.

An ESD Mat - this did come with both a wrist strap and a cable that connected the mat to an alligator clip

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32332863528.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.23.10931802XydB9U

...but I needed a way of connecting that alligator clip to ground. So, a mains plug so I can attach the ESD to ground.

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004665010864.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.17.10931802XydB9U

ESD Mat assembled with the plug and tested with my multimeter, measures a few megaOhms as expected. Bargain! The plug has an external rubber housing, and the screw terminals were a bit poo poo. I dunno if I'd want to use it for something with actual active and neutral connections, but I'm not an electrician so that'd be illegal anyway. As a means of safely connecting my ESD mat to house ground, it's fine.

What's the sweet spot for mini chain saw price again? I see one on Temu comes with battery and its 37 bux. Maybe I will make a new account and use a 20%-50% coupon.

It's not Makita battery compatible but those are $43 without a battery.

Also what kind of gloves do you need to use this?

The gaps on the vernier scale are so large it's very hard to get a decent reading off of them. And the printing on the scale has a very slight slant to it which makes it even harder to line up with the main scale. The metal ones I've got are a 0.02mm scale which is miles easier to read off. I might just be too stupid for a 0.05mm vernier scale though

If you don't want to wait for aliexpress shipping there's some on Amazon, too, and the prices are getting low. I got one from there when they came up in the thread a couple of years back and it's been really solid, it's a good way to cut up small branches. I see a one battery on there for $40 right now (with a 10% click to apply coupon): https://www.amazon.com/Chainsaw-CONN-Cordless-Handheld-Portable/dp/B0BCKB8VFK/ but I don't know if that one will be makita compatible since it says they're 24V which would indicate 6 18650 cells in the pack instead of 5 like most 18/20V tools and is less likely to be makita compatible.

I bought this one in 2021 which is a little expensive compared to the others but has two batteries and an extra chain and bar. I don't have any makita batteries to compare them to but they're probably a knock off of those since that's just really common on these things:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08R1GB6M2/

Only thing I don't love about it is the chain tension likes to get slack pretty often so I adjust it before I use it, and the batteries use a wall wart to charge instead of a charger stand (each battery has a barrel jack input on it).

I think they're really just made all over by a few factories and will mostly perform similarly. There's also a ton of replacement bars and chains for 4, 6, and 8 inch available so you could likely swap one out for another if you need to cut bigger stuff.

Previously I was using a sawzall with a brush cutting/pruning blade for similar stuff and it worked well but it vibrates a lot if you're really cutting up a lot of branches. The little chainsaw is easier on the wrists in that regard.
