I was wondering if the thread could help me find something. I mess about with electronics here and there and have hundreds and hundreds of resistors that are in a sorry state of organization. Right now, I have resistors in tiny zip-top baggies and then all those in a bigger zip-top bag.

What I'm looking for is a binder or something that has maybe little compartments or baggies in it for putting each value of resistor in. Or maybe there's some better way to do this?

I'm wanting something smaller than a tacklebox but I think you might be onto something. I tie flies for flyfishing and I think i've seen something that is similar to what I'm looking for that was used to store hooks and other materials.

You might try asking in the sewing or LEGO threads; I bet both groups have experience with storing small bits and bobs.

you can also get the smaller "compartment container" which is basically the guts of a tacklebox with no handle or ruggedness

Looks like you can just straight up get a resistor binder with the resistors on Amazon.

edit: Actually something similar to this jewelry storage book is probably what I"m looking for:

If you are open to an idea that is completely out of the box -- get a bunch of these test tube vase racks, mount 'em on the wall, and voila it's not just storage, it's art. https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805186838722.html

Obviously you'd get the kind where you can remove the tubes. My grandmother did bead work with teeny "seed pearl" beads and this is how she stored her inventory. Stick a cork in the test tube and you can toss it in a pocket and take it wherever.

I edited my post but I think I found what I'm looking for(maybe) I think and you were on the right track. There are a few different kinds of these but they look to be similar to that resistor book I posted above but only cost $2.50 and I don't have to buy even more 1+ million ohm resistors that I am never going to use.

Be aware different countries have different standard sizes for paper/etc. If you want to use those inserts, you probably have to buy a binder with holes that match up, instead of just rolling up to a Staples

IME to organize poo poo you want a labeller first. Like one of those Brother labellers.

As for compartment boxes, there are many different options, you can buy from home depot, container store, michaels. They all sell compartment boxes.

I thought about card binders (and slipping the individual ziplock baggies in each holder) but I think they'd be too tight a fit for the inevitable jumble of components whereas a cardboard card is much thinner and uniform. Those pouches in those jewelry books are meant for thick and awkward shaped metal which are kinda what the components are. probably thicker plastic too so a terminal is less likely to puncture it.

The reason I wanted something smaller is because the space I keep all this crap at is limited. I found a half-sized compartment box that had some other stuff in it so I might just end up using that.

I had the same issue with through hole resistors and tried some pockets similar to those but that didn’t zip lock closed like those do. It was a disaster. They fell out easily, i had so many resistors that I needed to double up in the pockets making them hard to find. For SMD I think it would work, but not through hole, at least in my experience. I literally just found a cardboard box just as big as the little baggies they were all in so they would sit front-back and stand up like a lovely card catalog. Then I just keep them in order like a good card catalog. It takes up an absolutely tiny amount of space.

But if those pockets have a top that closes then you may have better luck. I decided my system works just fine for the number of times I need a specific resistor. It’s probably less than you think

For SMD resistors just use resistor books. You can get those on AliExpress, I've got a few and they're fine.

For through hole resistors I'm yet to see a good space efficient solution. I've seen those little compartmentalised bin racks or towers work well but they're not space efficient. My solution is to leave them in the packets and once they're out and used they go into the the horror mixed resistor pile.
