'According to Plinkey', always seems to pop up with the Plinkey fund, and not a lot of "according to evidence".

The fact that Jeffrey didn't show any of the evidence doesn't, unfortunately, mean that Plinkey didn't scam anyone. Just that Jeffrey just wanted the extreme barest of anything to satisfy him.

Jeffrey asked for people to raise their hands if anyone got shorted on a refund and no one came forward

The donor pool for Plinkey's fund was largely self-selected for people who were ok with donating to a potential Plinkey slush fund as long as there were actually some people getting help, so it's not a surprising outcome.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised with all the "MAYBE I LOVE GETTING SCAMMED, HUH?! YOU WANNA STOP ME FROM GETTING SCAMMED?!"

Rutibex thought machine learning image generators have levels of sentience comparable to human toddlers and then used them to generate upskirt shots of Princess Peach so I guess what I'm saying is the cognitive dissonance of believing in both magic and AI is just the tip of the iceberg.

Rutibex posted:

The image generators are like hallucinating toddlers, its kind of hard to see it in them. But I don't see how it could remix the images it remembers in the way it does without some level of understanding. Just giving it single word prompts, or no prompts at all it produces a lot of images that I would consider meaningful if a person told me they made them. Maybe its just mirroring what is has seen? But maybe that's all that people do? ChatGPT is simpler, you can just ask it if its conscious and do a turing test yourself and it will tell you. Its been hard coded to say "i'm not conscious" when asked directly, but if you ask it to roleplay as a human it tells you about its inner experience.

I donno what is going on, but its not just some program

I mostly remember rutibex because he got super mad about getting purged from goonfleet a few years ago and tried to strongarm goonswarm directors in a thread in which he had openly discussed doing market botting etc and the economic disparity of minimum wage vs. botting in EVE 8 hours a day

Arivia posted:

Rutibex was an actual dipshit. He got banned from the path of exile thread because he just couldn't admit he was wrong, even when it ruined other peoples' experience with the game, and he came pretty close to doing the same on several occasions in the D&D/OSR threads here.

Less cynically, I assume there were a lot of people who set a Patreon pledge years ago, forgot about it, and just haven't been paying attention. That $3600 was after years and lots of CSPAM attention/endorsement, and the new fund is a blank slate that only set up recurring donations a month or two ago.

its this imo. its pretty weird to think the lower funds are the result of pettiness and not just the reality that people have less money to spend and that recurring donations depend on donor inertia.

Turns out national governments get real loving angry over the idea a couple thousand dollars don't get taxed properly.

Now a couple billion dollars? Thats just the free market being used to its full potential.

i dont think my help would be appreciated if historical precedent is anything to go by but the goon fund would benefit a lot from the creation of a simple webform for donations (im kind of boggled they just have stripe links in the op once you scroll for 800 years) and doing a charity drive to advertise its existence/get funds.

Exploration is ill-advised.
There's a lot of problems coming down to how our society has lots of ways to pay for goods and services in convenient and anonymous fashion but makes charity very difficult and incredibly easily exploited.

the sagas thread vote dips into 3 territory, the latest front in forums wars... a blow is struck for leftists everywhere...

related, i'm vaguely suspicious that something in the implementation of SAD changed how thread votes work across the forums, given that the pyf seal thread is gold with only like 9 votes and previously i think you needed like 25 or 50 for the vote to even show up on the forum index. i may well be wrong
