Dunno if this is the best place to post this, but my wife and I saw Tenacious D on Friday at the O2 Arena in London. Apparently their biggest ever headline gig. It wasn't the longest set but it was a ton of fun; my wife, who knows a couple of their songs and likes them, had a better time than she was expecting (she thought it would be decent, but had a much more than decent experience), and the crowd were great - loads of enthusiasm and energy. Unlike on the concert DVD from years back (also performed in London IIRC) they had a full backing band, who were excellent, and all got their chance to shine in the closing number, which even featured a lighting solo, done to silence and some amusement in the crowd. It was a rocking, funny, well-performed gig and I'm glad I got a chance to see them do their thing live. Oh, and they did a Zeppelin cover - Good Times Bad Times - as their first encore, which was sweet as hell.

Setlist

I bet that was a great show! JB's enthusiasm and energy is legendary. Guy can sing too!

Tenacious D loving rules, and I wish they made more full-length songs like Tribute and Kickapoo, instead of all those one minute ditties

That’s not a color! But goddamn you are right every single variation of openers is extremely good. And most of them are 10 times heavier/more aggressive than Baroness was even 15 years ago so it’ll make for an interesting dynamic. Kind of disappointed that we get KEN mode (and I really like KEN mode!). Haven’t gotten to see Soul Glo or Chat Pile or Escuela Grind or Primitive Man before.

Words I never thought I'd say about Alkaloid:

Positively horrifying amount of crossover appeal here. Like, Enter Sandman level of X factor on this track

Gigs with a wildly varying setlist genre/style wise are my favorite. Bring the punks, prog nerds, stoners, thrash heads and plain ol' rockers together in a cacophony of noise, and the usual end result as I've observed it is a drat good time.

Actually this single doesn't have absolutely blown out production and the song is pretty good too. Gives me hope! Those tour openers are wild too, I might have to catch Baroness again.

Between Nithing, Sarmat, and the Alkaloid and Rivers of Nihil singles it's been a great week for music for me.

Has anybody listened to the remix of Alaska by Between the Buried and Me? I've got a bit of a mixed opinion of it. I think some parts are clearer but I don't really like how the snare drum sounds like it's been ran through a gate filter. Just doesn't sound as deep as it did on the original recording.

i'm overall a fan of the new mixes but yes the snare on Alaska is definitely.... divisive

There's a gravity blast in Roboturner that sounds so good on the original mix, but on the new mix the snare sounds like it's barely being hit. It's just stuff like that which I've noticed. The bass sounds really good though.

I got to see 3" of Blood in a teeny bar venue with like, forty super enthused people, and it will forever be one of my favorite concerts. Municipal Waste played after and it was just as ridiculous. Dude in a shark onesie was crowdsurfing on a boogie board during Terrorshark and I still think about that show a lot
