0.000% of Communism has been built. Evil child-murdering billionaires still rule the world with a shit-eating grin. All he has managed to do is make himself *sad*. It has, however, made him into a very, very smart boy with something like a university degree in Truth. Instead of building Communism, he now builds a precise model of this grotesque, duplicitous world.

I think the speaking skills thing is a good idea, if it was part of an arrangement that also included, for example, a lot of extra money for schools. A good friend of mine works as a cleaner at a service station (after getting to his “if it sucks, hit the bricks” limit at, ironically, his teaching job) and a huge number of his colleagues there rely on him for basic language skills. He acts as an employment and relationship counsellor just by listening to people and translating it with a “right, what he means is…” and is held in huge esteem by the other staff. A bit of practice in sticking to your point and conveying it effectively would help a lot of people enormously. Shame it’s pledged, of course - that means it won’t happen.

Both Labour and Tories think that what the country needs is some One Weird Trick that will help fix everything meanwhile everyone is crying out to hear "we'll spend money to fix the big problems" because people recognise the current situation is hosed from funding, not some nebulous lack of reform.

I agree that public speaking and oracy skills are important and matter, but there's many glaring problems in our schools before you get to "poor pupils aren't as good as communicating as rich ones"

Although the pandemic and kids being terminally online has probably made it worse.

I can't think of any.
Decent leaders - when they appear from time to time - seem to meet with unfortunate accidents by foolishly placing themselves in the paths of bullets.

Are there any countries where the leaders are dead?

Extremely funny that a) he’s making a speech about wanting to let young people articulate their views and then wets his pants when they do precisely that

And b) the way he casually dismisses it with “we’ve done that one” - ie I stood up and spouted platitudes about this the other week, isn’t that enough for you????

The speaking skills thing is Starmer yet again carefully placing a dozen rakes on the ground in front of himself. I give it a day before someone completely blindsides him with the unforeseeable: "Sir Keir, would you agree that answering questions clearly and concisely is an important part of oration?" (Why yes I would) "Well then could you tell me why Labour is unable to keep any of its pledges for longer than a week?"

I can’t wait for them to stop their antics, frankly. You know, they’re interrupting iconic sporting events that are part of our history, tradition and massively looked forward to across the nation. I absolutely condemn the way they go about their tactics.

And I have to say it’s riddled with an arrogance that only they have the sort of right to force their argument on other people in this way.

The best, the single best way to ensure our economy thrives in the future, and that we have clean, affordable energy is actually the election of a Labour government and the mission I set out on clean energy by 2030.

But Just Stop Oil, as I say, the arrogance of what they do, the interruption of events which mean a lot to the nation. I can’t wait for them to stop.

Guessing that protesters will not just be politely asked to stop what they are doing.

They aren't really sure why the Bank of England has an expensive contract with a private company to operate the big money printers it used to own, but they're pretty certain it's not so the government can spend that money on solving the country's problems.

i thought the story of the first baby born under the nhs is very interesting. Essentially, he was diagnosed with crohns at a young age and made a point how the nhs couldn’t really offer him much at the start, whereas today he can have MRIs, fancy drugs and specialist appointments

of course the government would prefer we go back to the 1950s funding model, much much more “affordable”

Over the last 10 year, the corruption in SA has really started to overwhelm and degrade the countries economy and government. All of which while run by the ANC. There much more to it than "Blacks ruined this country", it's more than the ANC got more incompetent and corrupt while relying on the legacy of winning apartheid to win elections.

I know little about the AMC. But it also might be too do with the government now having to provide for all its population instead of just 7%.
