It's really funny that people have apparently accepted the idea that tropical fruits are strictly gated behind capitalism. This is a stale artifact of the particular historical circumstances of the USSR and the Cold War rather than a universal truth.

To be somewhat fair the reverse is also true, I would venture a guess that say most online progressives that are already doing well off or come from p fortunate backgrounds don't really get that they're already receiving a larger cut than an equitable distribution would be, particularly on a global scale. The amount of "treats" we'd have to scale back on or how much work would be expected from people who are currently used to spending half an hour or so of emails then dicking around on their phone all day is probably a whole lot different then what is imagined.

I feel like if you're going to do socialism in the America it's extremely important that you do like, cooking training for basically everyone. I would guess that like 80-90% of people in the US have no idea how to cook food for themselves and wouldn't be able to deal with a reduced amount of goods available. They used to have home ec but that poo poo isn't real anymore

if we were doing socialism in America, maybe we could do communal kitchens and cafeterias instead of everyone having to do it themselves in their own homes.

:wrong: greed is behavior derived from the ecological conditions. this is capital realism, your perception of what is naturally occuring is skewed by americanism

you can't look at like Sentinelese people and point and go "see they're also greedy because they're humans". their behaviors are derived from an entirely different ecological condition than someone from the midwest

Peter Brown wrote an entire book about how "Greed is a Sin" caused something akin to a revolution in social relations in the Roman Empire, and while the huge influx of wealth caused by the Roman nobility converting changed Christianity too, you can in fact cause even the richest people in society to think greed is bad and to spend incalculable fortunes building monasteries and caring for the poor and widows.

e: If the problem is "greed is human nature" the answer is simple - appeal to a cause and ideal greater than human nature, socialism or spirituality.

no no it’s actually good to funnel the wealth upward and then maybe distribute like 10% of the promised amounts to communities that need it. you can’t just give money directly to the poors (please ignore all the studies showing giving money directly to people who need it is a loving slam dunk on every metric except ‘number go up’)
