i know two millennials who are homeowners: one dude got his mom to pay the down payment, and he pays the mortgage, and the other dude got a house as a wedding present, because his wife's dad is a rich lawyer.

i'm even approaching the point where i'm thinking i'll never own a new car. how could i possibly afford one? i don't go anywhere or do anything expensive, and yet i still break even every single month. my gf bought her toyota a decade ago, and i'm thinking we'll be keeping that for another decade at this rate.

around 50% of millennials are homeowners now. a lot of them inherited wealth/property or their parents/grandparents put up money for the down payment, and people aren't exactly forthcoming about that aspect of things

McDonald's hamburgs have a certain je ne sais quoi. There's just something about them that keeps me coming back. Their fries are good too. I don't like restaurant hamburgs that you have to cut with a knife and unhinge your jaw to eat.

I know one guy who lived extremely frugally and socked away enough cash and did well enough with stonks that he was able to scoop up a starter home in rural east TN right before rates blew up. As far as I know, he did it completely on his own.

Another friend bought a complete piece of poo poo fixer at 0% down from someone he knew and has worked his rear end off and drained his bank account making it look halfway decent. Also before rates exploded.

Everyone else had help from parents and/or makes fat stacks from their banker/developer/doctor type job. Usually both.

A normal non-inverted yield curve should offer higher yields for longer durations as a time premium, however short duration (<1 year) t-bills are currently around 5.5% interest, yet 30 year bonds are still only offering ~4.1%. That's probably a low supply issue, if the treasury actually tried to sell a large number of 30year bonds that would probably reveal/drive up the 30year rates to ~6% and this would do 2 things:

1) bank problems due to banks previously buying 30 year notes at 1-2% interest. When current 30 year bonds are offering 6% interest, those old 1-2% bonds will be a huge unrealized loss on their books. The feds would likely need to bail out a lot more banks because the face value of their book assets will poo poo the bed.

2) the government's balance sheet will be a disaster too if they "lock in" long term debt at current rates. Having >$30 trillion in debt when you could borrow at 1-2% interest, is a whole different beast than at 6% interest. At napkin math that would be ~$2 trillion in just paying off interest every year. Compare that to the yearly total budget of $6.2 trillion.

So you're saying Yellen is very carefully balancing a pyramid of extremely fragile porcelain cards that could render the government insolvent if she fucks up?

That owns

Now what's this 'code enforcement' fella doing at my front door that requires being backed up by an entire SWAT detachment?
