The biggest difference between DOs and MDs is that DOs are more likely to go into primary care which means they’re more useful to society on average

actually the biggest difference is that DOs use "Magic" to cure their patients via special healing wands and orbs

Anyone that actually believes that poo poo just doesn't make it to the real world of medical practice and simply sticks to the shadows of sketchy 'physical therapy spine rehab' joints in strip malls. I've had a couple and they were very old I've talked to a lot of DOs about osteopathy from the perspective of a skeptic and most just view it as a course requirement, this was not always the case though and the lay on hands portion of their training used to be emphasized pretty hard. At this point it's just a dated artifact of ancient American politics and the distinction isn't meaningful. Just drop the osteopathy courses and make them MDs. For most doctors it shouldn't matter, if a doctor is really upset about not getting to osteopath people anymore they'll just have to cope and fall back on real medicine

actually i changed my mind now my issue is that we've allowed Osteopathy to fall by the wayside. we aren't emphasizing it enough in their education, by the admission of every poster in this thread, and medicine has suffered as a result.

Can some of those doctor or scientists in here tell me if science direct is reputable or not? https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2319417023000872 Because there's a study that straight up says that yup, Covid is airborne AIDS.

lol at these utter boneheadsquote:Data were gathered through a random national mail survey of 3000 US osteopathic physicians. Nine hundred and fifty-five questionnaires were usable for analysis. Through open-ended questions, osteopathic physicians identified philosophic and practice differences that distinguished them from their allopathic counterparts, and whether they believed the use of osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT), a key identifiable feature of the osteopathic profession, was appropriate in their specialty. mawarannahr has issued a correction as of 20:45 on Aug 22, 2023 |

NeonPunk posted:Can some of those doctor or scientists in here tell me if science direct is reputable or not? As someone said above, sciencedirect is a repository, but you can see the journal name on the page. A good way to check journal quality as a total outsider is to plug the journal name ("Biomedical Journal" in this case) into this site (https://www.scimagojr.com/), which indexes journal metrics. Here's the one for this journal. https://www.scimagojr.com/journalsearch.php?q=21100248812&tip=sid&clean=0 From the journal page, you can get a sense of whether the journal ranks high or low in its assigned category/subcategories, which in this case are "Medicine" and "Medicine - (miscellaneous)". If you click on that category from the journal page, you can see what other journals fall under that category and where this one ranks. The page also shows that this journal ranks in the top quarter of Medicine (miscellaneous), BUT it was also hovering in Q2 for the last few years before, and only seems to have climbed higher in the last few years (see the line charts down the page). If you were an expert in the area you'd be able to make a more nuanced judgment, but from a first glance I'd say it looks like a mid-tier journal, so I'd be skeptical about it until you see it getting cited in reviews or used in other work. It won't work for this article, since it's so new, but another good idea to get a general sense of quality is to just see if other people are citing a paper. You can check this in google scholar by searching the title. In this case no one has cited the paper yet, so I'd also stay skeptical unless you have the expertise to read and review it yourself. https://scholar.google.com/scholar?lookup=0&q=Acquired+Immune+Deficiency+Syndrome+correlation+with+SARS-CoV-2+N+genotypes&hl=en&as_sdt=0,22 Again, this is all knowing nothing about the content of the paper itself. Just trying to say how to make a semi-informed surface judgement as a non-expert.
