My wife and I went camping this weekend with a couple of friends. This morning she woke up early with a fever and tested positive immediately. Did you guys know you can get covid outdoors????? As soon as she wakes up we'll figure out if shes ok taking pax with the meds she's on. Maybe we should have figured this out sooner.

WTF?
While this is centered on India and the Delta wave certainly contributed there specifically, there has been wide reporting of both multi-resistant bacteria and fungal infections.
"How Rampant Overuse Of Antibiotics During Covid Impacted India"

https://www.ndtv.com/world-news/how-rampant-overuse-of-antibiotics-during-covid-impacted-india-4362411 posted:

Rampant overuse of antibiotics during the COVID-19 pandemic - largely because of lack of knowledge - fuelled the growth of antimicrobial resistance but also delivered two key lessons for the future.

Plenty of mistakes were made in the use of antibiotics during the COVID-19 pandemic. We need to learn from them to curb the growth of antimicrobial resistance.

Rampant overuse of antibiotics during the COVID-19 pandemic - largely because of lack of knowledge - fuelled the growth of antimicrobial resistance but also delivered two key lessons for the future.

Ironically, the pandemic-induced overuse of antibiotics also makes a future bacterial or viral pandemic even more likely.

Key lessons reinforced by the pandemic were that the use of antibiotics needs to be rationalised and, to achieve that, medical professionals and the broader public need to understand why.

The overuse of antibiotics for COVID-19 was largely caused by the lack of specific treatment for the virus. Ignorance of the cause and the rapid evolution of COVID-19 gave the medical fraternity little time to develop evidence-based strategies.
(..)
In India, studies showed a surge in the use of azithromycin alongside the rise of COVID-19 as most cases of fever in patients with suspected COVID-19 were prescribed azithromycin.

In hospitalised patients, the use of broad spectrum agents, especially carbapenems, was the norm.

The scientific approach to infection control was also hampered by the fear of the pandemic and ignorance of precautions.

To compensate for the deficiencies, doctors resorted to the rampant use of antibiotic and antifungal agents. These measures were further fuelled by evolving knowledge that fungal infections were more common in severely ill patients with COVID-19.

I was talking to a friend and brought up the fact that 400k people died under Trump, then vaccines happened and 600k died under Biden, who declared covid over and now his wife has it and there's another wave in the USA. He said he had no information about this but hadn't thought about covid for years and that surely this wasn't correct, furthermore in his country there's no covid any more. I posted some links and then he was like 'biden needed time to fix this, he inherited a bunch of bullshit from trump' and finally 'yeah... looks like biden is not doing so great, that's really weird. However covid isn't a thing here'. I suppose that's as good as I can get! I think he hasn't had it once or been exposed once. For some people it really isn't real basically, they've only had 'on the news' kind of news about it, they don't know anyone who got really sick or died of it, and the people they do know who got it recovered fairly quickly. I suppose it's really hard to see what's going on if it's being hidden or just not covered in the news much. Some (not all) people who WFH and have no kids, and no parents in care facilities are basically living in another reality where this just is not something to worry about at all.

This article indirectly raises an interesting point, namely that in regards to "of COVID" versus "with COVID", the "with COVID" hospitalizations would see a large drop compared to earlier waves, because hospitals are no longer testing everyone, but rather a small subset.

Regarding Biobot data, this is what they are talking about :

But by region that seems less like a leveling off, except in the South:

2. Contact Tracing
2.1 All contact tracing be stopped with immediate effect except in congregate settings and cluster outbreak situations or self-contained
2.2 All contacts must continue with their normal duties with heightened monitoring ( daily temperature testing, symptom screening) of any early signs. If they develop symptoms then they should be tested and be managed according to the severity of the symptoms
2.3 All contacts must not be tested unless if they develop symptoms

3. Quarantining for contacts of confirmed cases of Covid -19
3.1 All quarantine is to be stopped with immediate effect
3.2 This applies to both vaccinated and unvaccinated contacts
3.3 No testing for Covid -19 is required irrespective of the risk exposure unless the contact becomes symptomatic
