Even before Comixology got bought by Amazon and poo poo the bed, Hoopla had rendered it completely obsolete for me.

WHY BONER NOW posted:Huh I didn't know a Pet Semetary prequel was coming I found out about it two days ago, via a sports website - https://defector.com/apologies-to-the-makers-of-the-pet-sematary-prequel-but-i-would-call-this-dog-my-little-sweetie-baby-and-rub-its-belly I'm working on finalizing my list for October, and there will be 20 countries in the world (or "countries," since Letterboxd considers Christmas Island, Svarbald, the US Virgin Islands, etc. as countries) that I have not seen a movie from. Due largely to watching a lot of global-warming-related documentaries from small island nations over the course of the summer; most of which should probably count as horror movies, as I'll submit that the central thesis of a horror movie is "We're hosed." 18 of these are available online. I was trying to get the other two via interlibrary loan, but it looks like that's a no-go. (Thanks for nothing, University of Iowa.) Instead, I snagged the last copy of one of them off Amazon France, and How the gently caress does this company make any money? (That's about $0.60 shipping from France, to the US, in a week.) The other one, Les Saignantes, was apparently freely available as a swf file on the now defunct africanfilmlibrary.com about a decade ago, and while archive.org has it, I've no idea how you get Flash to run nowadays. DVDLady somehow has it.

Lumbermouth posted:I thought Kanopy didn’t have credits anymore? At least that was the talk when my library was looking into subscribing. Looking at mine it still has credits. I get 10 a month, which I was given to understand is a lot (my library is very well funded). Maybe that's a legacy thing though. If you've got multiple library networks in your area that you can get a membership to, you can sometimes get extra that way (I was able to get 20 a month this way for a while, but one of my cards expired and I haven't had a chance to renew it yet).

I have Kanopy and Hoopla but only 3 credits for each. Kanopy is the much better movie selection but Hoopla has all the other stuff including comics. The 3 credit limit a month can be annoying though. Like if you wanna watch a tv show or mini series each episode is a credit. But it’s free so I can’t complain.

Hoopla is good because it has some absolutely bizarre pulls. I'm not saying the live action King of Fighters movie is good or anything, but when I had a morbid curiosity it was the only place offering it. It also had My Boyfriend's Back, which I had previously only watched on a VHS blind buy.

My library has 10 credits a month via Kanopy and I haven't taken much advantage of it but I plan to use it as much as I can for the October challenge.

I have kanopy and I don't think there are credits but I've also never watched more than a few things in a month. Mine also seemingly has a much smaller library than what other people say and what their website says they have, so maybe there's a plan with unlimited views but less content? My hoopla has like 5 credits a month I think.

There are specific content libraries that you have to add to your base subscription, it's why we didn't end up going with it. I remember seeing a lot of Argento on JustWatch that wasn't there when I logged into the Free Library's Kanopy.

The drink cup's somewhere between a small and medium. I use my Ghostface ones as jewelry containers so I don't have earrings and rings get carried off by a cat. Plushie's pretty much worth it's price. The Ghostface one I have is very pillowy and claimed by Bava-cat as her pillow.

Just finished El Conde, it's pretty good! Pablo Larrain's (director of Spencer, which is better) new film, Netflix-exclusive, black-and-white (mostly) horror-comedy where Pinochet's a vampire that wants to die because he's no longer having fun, his character's been dishonored, and his family's a mess that want money. Features vampire narrator Margaret Thatcher

John Carpenter's new thing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9cRV4_Qgew They call it "unscripted" but it seems like what they mean is that it's using the cinematic language of truecrime documentaries to tell supernatural stories. Fun idea! Hopefully Carpenter isn't just cashing a check and had some real creative involvement.
