Apparently Dan is a sex symbol in France.

I mostly lurk game threads to find out about games I wouldn't otherwise, and kept deciding against Trouble Shooter every time Snooze Cruise shouted about it. Now that it's on sale I bought it, so the strategy worked!

No idea when I'll be able to play it though

Pretty much the same. It's also hard to argue against the sheer playtime I have in that stupid game.

So kawaii..
drat, the final boss fights on each route in Octopath II actually gives me some challenges even though I was confident after getting a bunch of strong equips and a bunch of levels+, do they scale or something? Many of them have a bunch of restrictive elements that can really put you at the edge.

She leaned forward. "We are going to assassinate the bad men of Hollywood."

They don't scale, some are just way harder than others, especially if the character question has been on your B-team all game.

What is this kid's DEAL?!

A little past the 3/4 mark in Mario RPG remake, and it's still a lovely time. The cloud dungeon is probably the only one where I have a really strong preference for the original soundtrack, and I really loved what the new song for the Dodo minigame adds to the experience. Not sure if I'm going to go for the postgame super bosses, but I do not regret picking this one up at full price.

The vaguely edgy pokemon with guns game from the makers of Craftopia has been releasing regular trailers showcasing their monsters one by one, and there's a few fun ones there. However, you are seeing enough gameplay this way that I am definitely detecting some of the underlying jank. Looks like some of the mons, they have a thread on their discord for the community to name them. That's where we got Depresso. Apparently currently slated for January 2024.

Got a friend copies of Troubleshooter and Socialism Simulator for their birthday, and I don't think they realize that Troubleshooter was the one with more potential for intense conversations about the evils of privatization. It's been very fun hearing about their first impressions and dropping dark hints about how real things are gonna get when they meet gangsters who actually use their smoke grenades. It makes me kinda want to get back to my own campaign, and maybe try to get that janky troubleshooter multiplayer running.

Also I really liked both OT and OT2, and while I recognize the common frustrations a lot of people have with those games, I personally love the vignette-based anthology style of storytelling. While I wouldn't complain about more cross-story interactions, I love the games more or less the way they are

Also Temenos loving rules and has to be my favorite RPG protagonist in recent memory

I liked the paired story idea that Octo II did. It's still a little side thing but it allows them to do a focused story of two Octos bouncing off each other nicely. Hoping an Octo III does even more

I think my sweet spot would be if they kept the overall structure that OT1 and OT2 did, but also had side stories for every pair of characters. I get that that's a lot, though.

Maybe a happy compromise would be that each character has their "focused" pair, i.e. a set of side quests that have more chapters/depth, and then the other pairings are shorter one-offs. IDK, I don't make or write video games.

So I’m going through the post game in the SO2 remake and I got Precis’ new ultimate weapon.

Now this is really strong as it is, but the remake lets you add an effect to weapons. So I put HP Drain on it. 5% of my damage dealt gets healed. Now Precis just stands back and spams Forcefield nonstop while doing well over 20k a hit. I’m only halfway through the Maze of Tribulations, so I’m definitely expecting to hit the damage cap by the end.

Not really sure why the remake lets you break the game like this, but it’s very amusing nonetheless. I guess I can try to solo Super Gabriel on Universe after I’m done with MoT.

One can argue that one of the most endearing parts of SO2 is how many ways you can break the game if you want to, so adding more means they get the point.

The World Ends with You

It just has such strong fundamentals with the writing with Neku's returning memory being a constant plot point and how it doles out new pieces of information how the Reaper's Game works and is falling apart. Plus all the characters are interesting enough that it's something I would've loved to read a manga of just so I could get more of that world and their interactions. Also I really like the art style and especially the enemy designs.

Neverwinter Nights 1 :getin:

That creator tools package made for some pretty darn cool user campaigns. Divinity Original Sin 2 has a better original campaign, but we did not get the same explosion of user made adventures with that. I could easily go a year with NWN1 plus expansions as my only RPG available.

This is so hard to answer cause every time I think I pick one I remember another one that really affected me, or a flaw in the one I picked that makes me think twice.

So depending on the day it's one of FF6, Suikoden 2, Valkyrie Profile, Growlanser 2, Xenoblade 1, Harvest Moon 64, or Ar tonelico 2

the postgame boss rematches are neat, very snes square puzzle boss style, like booster will charge up a train-flavored mega flare so you have to hit him to break his concentration but his snifsters will keep buffing his speed unless you take them out too

I'm just trying to go through life without looking stupid.

It's not working out too well...
Making my way through the final dungeon of SO2R, and there's a weird difficulty curve going on. Because I spent an evening using the Specialities for leveling (Train, Scouting, etc.) I got to the point where I was able to go through the Field of Might with Bodyguard active, popping all the enemy sprites. I had blue enemy sprites when I reached the final dungeon, Phynal, but after ten or so encounters, they turned green so I was able to steamroll through them as well.

However, the fights with the Ten Wise Men so far have been big difficulty spikes. I beat the trio at the bottom after a few tries, but the duo at the top (Haniel and Michael) were a lot more frustrating. Looking at an online guide, I probably should've had Celine/Leon in the fight to cast Water spells, since one of the bosses is weak to it.

Dunno if there are any precautions I should take for the last two bosses, I could probably grind for some additional levels and put some points into Customization for some characters to get them some better weapons.

it took me until the post-game (and like 90% of the postgame beaten) to figure out how the counter works in SO2R.

I am not proud of myself.
