The Bolt Thrower boys infamously bonked a few Nazis with a baseball bat at one of their shows. There's a great interview floating around somewhere about it.

Oozing machismo

So .. on a random website (http://www.mattjohnsen.com/archive/2005/11/into_the_eye_of.php) that reviewed Realm of Chaos, Karl Willets from Bolt Thrower told a wild story in the comments.
I remember when I first found this, completely at random and I had to share it with the metal thread here, so the story is in one of the old threads.

quote:

Heres my account of the NJ Riot...It is a memorable point in the history of BoltThrower...

We where told before to expect some poo poo at this venue, we where greeted by a somewhat jumpy female promoter, Nazi skinheads had recently been walking into gigs and trashing the place and causing brawls, rumour had it tonight was to be no different.

We met with the guys from Immolation , top blokes...off their tits on PCP, the load in was amusing...I'd had a bit of crystal meth that night which may have added to the overall weirdness of the night. Robert Muller our German freind from Century Media Records was also there, he kindly gave us the loan of his pet slugger(baseball bat), which we removed from the trunk (boot) of his car and surrepticiously hid behind the stage.

I remember throughout the support bands these nazi pricks had started to do that stupid arm streching routine a lot...I got on stage and told them to stop..(no suprise they didn't...but they'd had a warning....)

When we went on stage I was furious, I remember some small black dude, well into the band and metal who was petrified by these animals, I think I warned them a couple of times...but the only thing these idiots would react to was direct confrontation.

I launced myself off the stage aiming myself at this one gangly twat whom had annoyed me particularly, and between me and the sound engineer from the venue we had them cornered, I looked out the corner of my eye to see this huge Neaderthal coming right at me, with adolf hitler tattoed on his chest, at this point our Tour Manager intervened with the German slugger!

I saw the nazi monster collapse to the fllor with blood pissing out of his head, the backswing to the bat almost killed one of the skinhead kids whom must have been about 12.

The place descended into chaos, the security guards where related to the skinheads, it could have got bad...We loaded our gear out superquick thanks to a more together immolation! and high tailed it out of there.

As we left, Baz remembered we left the baseball bat in the venue, he went back in to retreive it just as the skinheads returned to the venue for vengeance...I have never seen a man move so quick through a melee of flailing limbs!

We drove off and we then thought that we where being followed by carloads of nazis after our blood, so we pulled over to confront them, yelling as we approached the stopped vechiles, until we realised it was some fans just making sure we got away ok....

A great yarn, to tell the grandchildren..(!?!)

From this video's angle i'm slightly out of frame in the lower left. The House of Blues show was even more packed, I had a pretty good spot for See You Space Cowboy but popped out for a smoke and couldn't get close for Terror or PtW. Both shows were so good though

When I moved to the US, the first show I went to was Poison The Well and I just vibed off the fact they were now a local band (despite being essentially broken up at the time).

I was given a flyer on my way in saying no stage diving or moshing which I assumed was some kind of joke. It wasn’t.

GWAR’s appeal transcends genre. I went to high school with two dudes who dressed like Eminem and listened exclusively to hip hop, but they’d literally drop everything and cross two state lines on a school night to get sprayed with fake blood and ejaculate at a GWAR show.

GWAR did a Tiny Desk Concert, for gently caress’s sake.

GWAR have some good songs here and there but yeah it is very much a performance art group that happens to put albums out.

I got to interview Blothar and Balsac at Riot Fest once and it was basically the closest I'll ever get to interacting with the Muppets.

In 89 I went to see Gwar and Old Skull in the East Village. I'd heard about Gwar but didn't know their music or anything, just that the performances were crazy. You already know what their shows are like, blood and gore and all that. I was up front getting soaked and loving it, but the whole time I'm wondering why nobody is stage diving or anything, since most of my shows those days were CBs matinees. Then I'm just like gently caress this I'm a hardcore kid and we get onstage! I jumped up and grabbed the biggest large intestines I could find and started swinging them around until I got rushed by a security dude who pushed me back in the crowd.

Later that week I'm at a friend's house watching MTV and they do a segment about Gwar! MTV hardly had any metal, especially something like that so we were all pumped- I think it was the first time Gwar was on MTV. Then holy poo poo there I am, getting pushed by the bouncer but also getting roundhoused by the sexecutioner! We were taping it so I got to see my grainy little micromoment of fame lots of times.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kT_r1zfgo1w

Cut to about four years ago, and who do I end up working with but the sexecutioner himself! I said "hey man you kicked me almost 30 years ago, and here's proof!". He got a good laugh about that, he started telling people "I kicked this guy in the 80s and now he's my boss!!" (I was only barely his boss then, it was a short project). He's a cool guy who still does lots of creative work, although he never made any music to begin with.

My city has a few decent venues and two in particular are where most metal shows are at. One of the venues in town that is the highest capacity for an outdoor show around here has never had a metal show before and from what I've heard the staff/owners just don't want to deal with metal fans or the cleanup after a show because of our perceived messiness. Well they finally relented and booked a metal show right before covid and it was Sacred Reich, Toxic Holocaust, and GWAR lol. There has not been a metal show again there since.
