FuzzySlippers posted:Act 3 has the same problem as Act 4 in Wrath: it’s too drat long. It could be a change of pace to shake up the game’s usual formula, but it just goes on too long and is too linear. It isn’t as much as a pace killer as Wrath because the story isn’t really building towards anything when it happens, but it still isn’t good and will be similarly tedious in replays Reading this as I paused playing Rogue Trader until the end half is playable, just now getting to Act 4 in Wrath. I actually liked that this game's classes were more like XCOM, starting out Wrath with no real knowledge of DND was stressful as gently caress. Eight billion choices and stats all thrown, concepts like multiclassing. I play a lot of tabletop games so learning a new system is fine to me, but I couldn't really ever recommend this game to a normie or my father in the same way I've told them to play Divinity Original Sin 2. This game also had a lot of numbers thrown at you but at this point I just look up a build online and depart as I wish. Old Doggy Bastard fucked around with this message at 16:27 on Jan 15, 2024 |

There's a slider just for lowering enemy stats independently of the other difficulty settings. It's a single player game, no one is going to witness your shame at configuring it to your comfort level. Eh... I don't think it's unreasonable to want the game to be somewhat balanced when playing by "actual Pathfinder rules", even if the default is lower. BG1 and BG2 start the player on Normal and not D&D Core Rules, and were quite playable on the latter without going nuts on min-maxing. I think it's just a concession to the fact that a lot of players will not be familiar with the rule system going in (and permadeath/any death before Raise Dead is pretty much an automatic reload, but a lot of people don't like save scumming).

I'm kinda surprised they implemented romances in this game. I can't remember ever encountering any kind of even chaste romantic relationship in a 40k book. I know the books are targeted at dudes and it's all grim grim no love in a universe with only war, but it's always felt a bit amusingly absent and not accidental. I think in all the books I've read occasionally someone mentions an absent wife like Abelard's distant wife and since people have kids I assume they were around each other at some point. Though for all I know all races in 40k reproduce like Orcs. I wonder if Games Workshop had any pushback against Owlcat over it.

Off the top of my head, there's romance plotlines in Aaron Dembski-Bowden's Helsreach, Chris Wraight's Bloodlines, and in Dan Abnett's Eisenhorn/Ravenor and Gaunt's Ghost series, and at least in his Double Eagle book- and I'm sure there's more, so it is definitely not absent in 40k literature I imagine the presence of anything related to romantic love is heavily dependent on the setting and faction represented- you're probably not gonna find it in a space marine book, unless a POV character is human (like in Helsreach, shoutout to my man Trooper Andrej)

You'd think they would be chaste, considering the origin of the organization that became the Sororitas (battle nuns tricked by the pope into becoming his bodyguards, assassins, and private harem).

Is it really developed much? Of the recent 40k books I've read the closest is in the Rogue Trader trilogy where Brielle (the RT's daughter) mentions she's sleeping with another character but it's not really in the plot. As an aside to anyone inspired by the game to read them, the RT books aren't that great. The first one has some actual rogue trading, some decent space battles, and a solid plot. The other two books are about being in a crusade and are not very rogue trader-y. The third book is just a big battle on a tao planet and is mostly from a space marine's perspective. No rogue trading at all!

You have talents that increase critical damage each time you attack(soldier), critical damage increase per stack (which you can also double for free at some point), talents where during extra turns by officer they deal more damage based on fellowship bonus plus exemplar talents that boost it even more, more exemplar talents that boost damage even further for different targets you hit and enemies you kill or even getting a boost from your dodge. Plus stupid endgame items like gauntlets that double critical damage or guns like They Shall Weep.

I don’t know how much stock you can put in the Cain books but those books plainly mention Guards troopers getting into trouble for having sexual relations (since they’re in an integrated mixed gender regiment) and Cain is at least implied to have a romantic relationship with a female inquisitor.

Cain finds at least one lady to gently caress like every 2nd or maybe 3rd book and his aide Jurgan is frequently noted to be a porn addict. Like it's not on page or even a noteworthy element of the plot but in Caiaphas Cain at least it's casually noted that people gently caress.

Picked this up recently, just touched down on Janus, going Iconoclast, having a fun time. Just by deciding that "A charismatic Noble/Officer seems neat" and "I will build Argenta to fight like the Sororitas do on tabletop", combat has already mostly cracked wide open in a hail of extra turns and bonus actions (also Cassia just being generally Absurdly Powerful). I could self-limit on that, but I'm also not seeing a clear alternative that isn't that. I wish there were more archetypes or character-specific archetypes, because as it is Arch-Militant is kind of The fighty class. I've also seen that apparently the game starts to get pretty unpolished/buggy later on (including character flags getting messed up a bunch?). Is there a point where I should hold off going further and wait for a patch/some other fix, or is it better to just push on through?

I wish other characters got that level of unique abilities/talents that Cassia does. Let me load Pasqal up with All The Augs. No, even more than that. More.
