The NHS is in a scary state at the moment. A good online disabled friend of mine recently found herself in ICU after a heart attack. On her last day in ICU she was listed, without her consent, request or knowledge, that she was DNR. She only found afterwards when she was able to access her notes about the visit. Every attempt to find out how she was listed like that and who authorised it has been met with brick walls and disconnected phonelines. She's finding that reversing this status for any potential future trips is proving difficult. fuctifino fucked around with this message at 01:46 on Jan 18, 2024 |

I would advise her to really push on this via formal complaints etc. Might be worth talking to the press etc. Also you can often get a lot out of a freedom of information request - while they can redact certain things and be very awkward they are legally obligated to provide the material, and as far as I can remember the cost isn't super excessive.

Starmer gets a massive majority? Hilarious because gently caress the Tories. Starmer does not get a massive majority? Hilarious because of all of these mental predictions, and also gently caress Starmer. I think the funniest result might be a hung parliament in some configuration, but I'm willing to be proven wrong.

Every attempt to find out how she was listed like that and who authorised it has been met with brick walls and disconnected phonelines. I don't work in acute medicine, but my understanding is that a DNR is a valid thing to add to someone's file if it's felt that the medical intervention to resuscitate someone would result in them having a significantly poorer quality of life if the resuscitation is successful. That should be discussed with a patient if they're able to have a discussion, or their next-of-kin if not. I don't know what the situation is with your friend, mind. But we know that some doctors don't bother following the rules and feel that they know best and are entitled to do things in a patient's "best interest" because of their level of knowledge and specialism. We also know that some doctors find it borderline impossible to admit when they've made a mistake. Whatever the reason the DNR was put on your friend's file, they should be able to find out some details. If PALS isn't working out, maybe see if your friend has a Tory MP who'd kick up a stink for a chance to stick a knife in the NHS.

A hung parliament would be the funniest option because then Keith has to go begging the other parties for support. Ironically a Lab-Lib coalition is the least worst outcome there. I mean obviously Lab-Green would be better but you know the piss diamonds will see their numbers swell undeservedly this time around, even if the Greens pick up some seats.

My friend is chasing it all up and has healthy local friends who are now assisting, so she will get to the bottom of it. I get to hear a lot of bad experiences about the NHS from friends, but this recent one sent shivers down my spine. I don't see it as a fault of any individual, but rather the collapsing and broken system.

Not that the government is likely to do anything about that (other than charge you with chemical weapons offences if you try). crispix posted:yeah seems society breaking down just causes people here to go on strike and have a bit of a grumble, you need to say something about a flag to get a good riot going
