It's helpful that escort mission NPCs will join you on oxcart trips, so if the far away place they want to go is close to one of the oxcart hubs you can just fast travel. I assume ferrystones bring escorted characters along too like in DD1.

Some goon gave me a Golden Trove Beetle as a gift for my pawn (I assume it's a real one, it's spelled correctly at least). It's really nice but I've sent them a message asking if they want it back, I don't think you want to be handing those out to others.

Pawns who are leading you somewhere really need to resume quicker. Every loving time I fight one goblin or saurian or harpy or whatever (which is about every six feet in this god forsaken hell nation) I have to spend twenty seconds faffing in circles until this one decides to start the route. It was amusing for a while when I realised I was being trekked halfway across the continent on a whim but it's been two days and I've probably only been on the move for half that time.

Does wayfarer let you level your constituent classes? I might just beeline to go unlock it so I can do something other than karate kick everyone when I'm not filling them with arrows

I really wish there was a way to lock on so I can tell if my arrows are going to the person/location I hope. If you play archer and you just stay back and plink away, you're probably not doing much. A good kick/backflip/arrow will do a lot more damage to a goblin (and be funner) than just gatting them down from safety

I think if you request a gifted item and offer a big reward, there's a good chance people might hire your pawn only long enough to gift the item. Good if you want lots of that item, but not if you want rift crystals.

A monster hunt mission means they'll at least be hanging out with the other player for 10-30 minutes, or longer if they're doing a good job (or the other player is too lazy to constantly swap pawns, like me).

And of course the usual suggestions of "this pawn actually has all their abilities set and reasonable gear for their level".

To be fair I did want the flowers because I thought it would take more than 2 of them to get the elf language book.

Your pawn can't eat the bug. The option is greyed out if you give it to them.

I tried giving it to my pawn and the Use option was greyed out.

If you're going by the change in weight capacity after you eat it, keep in mind that the actual act of eating the beetle reduces your weight because you're no longer carrying the beetle. The visible change is not the actual change to your stats.

I think it is, but I was confused at first as well. When you consume the beetle, you will notice only your Arisen's carry weight going down, but that's just because the beetle itself weighs something. If you look at the encumbrance limit under Status, it does actually go up for both the Arisen and the main pawn.

This loving game.

Was making my first real foray to the west of the map, trying to make for Batahl.

Go into some random cave and find a little kid surrounded by wolves, he's all, "Oh did my grandfather send you to find me? I must get home!" and my pawn's all, "Yeah I know the way, c'mon master!"

Fucker wants to go all the way back to Vernworth!

Uh....no he doesn't. Or at least, he shouldn't. He actually wants to go where you want to go. I don't know how you would get a Vernworth destination unless they literally made a fork in the quest where if you discover him before a certain something, he takes you back to the capital. Which, knowing this weird rear end game, wouldn't surprise me.

That's a Checkpoint Town quest. Your pawn is full of poo poo (or more likely you had a different quest active).

Can't speak for the pawn, but the kid actually wants to go back to Checkpoint Rest Town - if you didn't actually have the quest and just randomly found the kid, the pawn probably was leading you on whatever your actual active quest was

Yooou motherfucker.

I picked up the kid ferrystoned back to Vernworth (where the quest marker was) and the pawn started running out of town. Looking at the quest description yes, it does say checkpoint town.

This loving game (derogatory).

So I started out as fighter and I was having a really good time with it, decided to change my vocation to archer and boy did I bounce off of it at first.

Now that I've almost got the vocation maxed, I'm having more fun than the fighter. I've been using the barrage, explosive arrows, tarring arrows, and the heavenly arrow maister skill and I just melt things.

Ogres go down quickly with a combination of tarring and then explosives.

Going to switch to thief next since I've heard lots of praise.

I got an escort quest from the elf, thought I'd ride the oxcart with him but then the quest failed. Maybe he didn't have money for the cart?

Then I get an oxcart quest to go deliver a letter to Melve and Sir Lennart, and no more than a minute after departure a griffon trashes the cart! (first griffon I killed, too). I wonder if there's another cart ready to go or do I need to walk there myself

I'll be adding my pawn to the goon list soon, he's a fat little orange cat named Friar Puck and he's an aggro mage with Celerity. I haven't had a ton of time to play so he's lower level but I'd appreciate people taking him out so he can get that knowledge.

So is that small-ish dragon/drake that you run into in the wilderness a random encounter, or an intended skill/stat check to your progress? Cause that motherfucker keeps cockblocking me whenever I wanna go somewhere new and don't really have any hope of taking it down yet while it two-shots all my pawns :argh:

You can run away from basically anything in this game, just do that. If it's a Drake you mean then yeah, a low-level party probably won't be able to kill it

I guess everyone turns their pawn into a warrior when they can, so there's a lack of fighters on higher levels. And fighters probably complement a group better as well, so they're easier to fit.

What weapon skills do you guys find best for pawn fighters. I haven't really had any issue with my guy using like, the blink strike, compass aoe, skyward attack and uh some other thing I think it was shield bash. But I'm curious if anyone has any opinions.

That's actually the exact 4 I have on my pawn. It just seems to cover the bases nicely.

Pawn inclinations affect their combat behavior? If so that's interesting. Wonder if that's why I had one Thief pawn perform wildly worse than another Thief pawn. Like maybe he was taking more risks and that's why he kept taking damage so much.

My personal pawn is Straightforward and has always done very well in his role as a tank. Very good at holding aggro and very rarely gets hurt much.

Btw, do the "throw someone" Fighter/Warrior skills automatically trigger if you run towards your Fighter/Warrior?

I'm thinking I should probably try

I gave mine the Shield taunt ability, Blink Strike (and its upgrade), the move where they start stabbing the enemy, and Shield Bash. I think I later replaced Blink Strike with the parry move, but haven't gotten a chance to see if he's any good with it (he's a Warrior right now).

Didn't bother with Skyward Attack since I'm an Archer, so I can generally bring down flying enemies on my own.
