I haven’t unlocked any of the harder ones yet but the first batch weren’t bad. On that note, how in the fuckkkkk do I clear that combat simulator where you have to kill the mindflayer first? I put the other enemies to sleep but they almost always wake back up because a party member hits them or I accidentally do an attack that hits them as well. That’s the only combat thing I can’t get at all. Not even close.

You can pause buffer the 3d brawler, makes it pretty easy once you have a couple rounds to learn the tells. The head position is the big giveaway. Or at least it was for me since it was more consistent than tracking their arm movements.

3d brawler made me feel like the year I spent on fighting games actually paid off in a meaningful way lol I actually had to stop myself from immediately block punishing attacks and waiting the eternity of 5 seconds for the game to tell me I could attack now

I've beaten the game on normal mode, I would have done all the available quests but the g-bike glitch got me and I decided to just finish it and see what happens with a patch. My three word review of the game is: gently caress off Chadley. The Temple of the Ancients trials genuinely showed me how much I'd really grown to care for these misfits, I was filled with genuine distress when I was holding down R2 too to and keep Nanaki away from the table with Hojo. Or even when Cloud was walking towards Aerith. There's a lot to think about with this and maybe I'll make an effort post about it all but for now: game's good y'all.

What's the best way to play the original FF7 now? Lookin' for version choices, hacks/mod suggestions, emulator recommendations, etc. Maybe in the wrong place but like. Whatever. I'm sure some of you have opinions about the original.

I think that provides the switch advantages like speeding up play and reduced or switched off random encounters as well as a bunch of other stuff like hd packs.

Cactuar Crush hard mode on the other hand  Edit: Send in the Clowns was unequivocally the hardest thing I’ve done in the game, so far. It’s not even a mini-game!!

The amount of effort in the industrial design and like landscaping of places like Costa del sol and gold saucer was so impressive to me, and it made those areas so cool. Attempts at making casino/theme park places like that in other games actually impressive always end up kind of needing some credulity from the player to elevate them, but this game does it immediately. Why's Square so stylish all the time?

Well, Cosmo Canyon is a cool area and I did like a lot of the plot that happened there But the minigame trifecta of Glide de Chocobo, Moogle Mischief, and Gears and Gambits is just... not great. I think my problem with this game isn't necessarily the amount of mini-games, but rather that a lot of these minigames just aren't that good imo.

Dodge roll around, take pot shots on the mindflayer with Overcharge or regular shots. Use Bonus Round whenever you run out of it. If you have bonus round already up, when you get two ATB use Focused Shot. Basically just dodging everything constantly while building stagger on the mindflayer. Took a while but I got it eventually.

QB cutscenes peak with the exhibition match on the cruise ship, but the cruor cutscenes are still pretty good. Card games are serious business in this world, and also everybody who plays them are total weirdos.

I did wonder if they were gonna (QB) make Jenova the queen, since the whole idea of coming together with the power of the Queen's blood is Reunion as hell, although I get why they wouldn't want to dampen their existential horror creature by involving her in a collectible card game.
