Player damage feels like it's got a few permanent periapts compared to the first game and stagger infliction is way too high for the PC and team on a bunch of vocations. enemies not gaining any sort of resistance or temp immunity to being staggered or knockdown means that any boss fight after a point falls over and dies on the spot and you don't even need stamina restores to do it. The numbers are just tuned to be really easy

Is there any way to find out enemy elemental weaknesses beyond "see if the ability does more damage"?

Pawns never seem to comment on it, and I can't find a bestiary.

Thundarr posted:

Golems are somehow the most dangerous monsters in the game because even if your pawns have physical attacks, there's always that one last medal they just don't want to attack, and meanwhile the golem can one shot your scrawny sorcerer rear end even at fairly high level.

I had some extremely tedious Golem fights when playing as Magic Archer, where I got to the last medal and the pawns had trouble hitting it and I also seemingly did nothing to it (and didn't have the ice block physical attack equipped). I can't remember how I finally won.

Fortunately my pawns had an easy time avoiding the Golem's attacks, so I was never at risk.

When would you actually want to use the weird zoom-in Archer skill? Getting a couple shots on a target from far away before a fight starts doesn't seem worth a skill slot.

I usually go with the DoT skill, the rapid-fire one, explosive arrow, and either Deathly Shot or another specialty arrow (probably the latter in the late game where I have plenty of them).

Speaking of specialty shots, how good is applying Blight to enemies? It's a DoT as a poison I'm guessing? Seems like the sort of thing that would either be really good or really useless.

Edit: Unrelated, but the lack of a "transmog" is really bugging me in the late-game, because the various armor and weapons are so cool looking. It's just a huge waste. I know you can just eat the stat loss (since it's not exactly super hard to begin with), but at that point it might as well just allow you to choose the appearance.

I took Lycean Sight initially because I thought it would either let me work as a sniper hitting things in the head for big damage, or let me use Explosive Arrow from way outside of range (like the Magick Archer's Flamefang Arrow. Neither turned out to be the case, so I ended up dropping it since combat always happens pretty close in when I'm trying to support my melee pawns.

I wish someone would dig in and pull out the actual damage formulas for these skills. I know there's a mod that shows damage numbers, but I kind of want to know if using Deathly Shot is better because it has more knockdown.

Thundarr posted:

Archer rules and the only reason I am unlikely to main it after maxing everything else is because magick archer exists (and also sorcerer, for those times I want to drop meteors on the heads of everything in visual range).

Magick Archer has felt really empty for me after playing Archer. The skills are powerful and easier to use, but I just miss the satisfying feeling of putting and explosive or deadly arrow into something.

Warfarer seems very nice in general, and seems to basically enable hybrid melee/ranged stuff pretty easily. I played Archer/Thief Warfarer for a while when going to do the elf guy's quest in NG+.

How big is the stat loss from it anyways? Not sure how to tell. Defensive stats at least are probably offset by being able to freely choose whatever you want.

I did it in the highish 20s with a mostly maxed out first vocation (Archer). You'll want to follow a guide if you're skipping the story quests, and if you have the RC hiring some stronger pawns helps a lot for encounters you don't run from.

And as someone else mentioned, be prepared to grab the final escort and just haul rear end with him if you encounter anything you can't handle.

I did manage to make it to that big city with the dyes at level 24 (and a vocation level 2 sorcerer because I am dumb). Well, I started quite a bit lower there were some pretty great fights along the way, yay for narrow corridors and big ole stone guys who can't fit through them I'm glad that's still a thing. Honestly this is the stuff I like most, I made my own quest line of "get this sodding vocation if I have to die sixty times on the way" and it's the most fun quest yet. My pawn somehow only died once and that was being knocked off a tower that I don't think I was supposed to go to by a griffon. She also seems to have picked up the habit of sneaking up behind something with a huge stone and beaning it in the back of the head.

The highlight of my time playing this game is when I literally unintentionally stumbled into Battahl City (and used that as an excuse to go get Magic Archer). It was wild when I was suddenly notified that I had crossed the border. I think the path I took is the same one advised if you want to get Magic Archer early, but I didn't know that at the time.

The "cyclops kill quest for 10k" advice for getting your pawn hired is real. I was having trouble getting nearly as many hires as I always did in the first game and had no hires over 4 days, then I followed some advice to set the cyclops kill quest for 10k gold, and have gotten 8 hires this weekend. it does mean using an inn potentially costs 12k instead of 2k which isn't nothing, but it's worth it if seeing your pawn come back makes the good chemicals in your brain

concerning second line, not sure if that means pawns dying or NPCs

Random browsing had me find out that apparently, grain of salt and all that, that enemies pre-Battahl should cap at level 30, so whatever modded XP gain nerf settings should land you at that figure. Unsure if -25% XP is enough, maybe a full third or even half?

Are there any mods/modding tools that let you re-name your pawn mid-game? Not being able to do so is legit the change I dislike the most from DD1, where I'd switch them up whenever the idea struck me. Right now I'm rushing to finish the game so I can start a new one with new Arisen/pawn.

I haven't been able to find good info on the stat difference of warfarer. I'm assuming it's the base stats / level increases which might become more noticeable at higher levels if directly comparing them? but they seemed not too big a deal compared to upgraded weapons and equipment

another note about the true warfarer mod, beyond allowing 3 skills for each specific weapon it also lets you equip ultimate skills. definitely OP, but great fun for chill adventuring with all da options at your disposal. still looking for a method to unlock all vocations from the very start of a NG though, guessing there's a cheat engine way to do that

The dad elf dude was my beloved lol. Probably because I had done the set of elven quests last and he was one of the last people I talked to, even though I had multiple max affinity NPCs from before. I think NPC affinity decays over time and it chooses based on recency, but why it gave me him instead of any of the hotter younger elves is a mystery. 😔 (Realistically because quest NPCs get naturally high affinity from their questlines, though in that case I'm not sure why it chose the dad instead of the son or the daughter.)

Looking into it, I did get the "high affinity" pawn true ending though, so there's that at least.

puttered in NG+ running with the token finder augment and i gotta say some of these locations are cruel as gently caress. fwiw i was able to reach all of them so far with thief + concussive detonation or whatever its called. you get enough air time to get to most spots and many cliff walls have small ledges. I collected 180 or something but dont really want to find more, i do not get why they made the 220 reward the +DP ring. by the time you get 220 you wont need DP. probably going to take a break so my sorceror with like 1100 matk and maelstrom will be sitting there at 70 or something, its in the spreadsheet. it's definitely overpowered and if she casts maelstrom it will pretty much kill most big things so have fun with that

I'm about done with the game for now, although I might do people's pawn quests just for fun, and obviously I will continue to beg for beetles (I would appreciate one if you're already past the cap, otherwise keep them for yourself). My review is up:

https://steamcommunity.com/id/656549/recommended/2054970/

It was a difficult one. 57% on Steam is stupid and purely due to the drama, obviously it deserves more than that, so I knew I had to leave a positive review. At the same time, there is so much wasted potential in Dragon's Dogma 2. The longtime fans wanted more DD and that's exactly what we got, but we didn't really get more than that. My hope is that the game will continue to improve patch after patch, and that eventually they'll have the equivalent of Bitterblack Isle, and I do think this is realistic, so I am optimistic in that regard.

The unmoored world does actually come to an end, once you get rid of all the Purgeners (or let their regions be destroyed) and then interact with the final beam. You can just start NG+ after that, that's what I did.
