I think I’m nearing the end of the story (fought the colossus and now have access to the volcano island merchants) so I’m doing a detour to work on sidequests and upgrade some gear. Though I have to see seeing items I’ve never found as required materials makes me thing I’m getting ahead of myself or there’s a lot of poo poo I’ve simply missed.

There's bunch of materials that only show up in very specific areas, and one that only shows up in post game (eldricite) So, you might have missed it, it might just not be available. Also different smithing styles use different materials, so that's also an option, even if I hate the stamps not matching.

Is Dwarven smithing usually good for upgrading anything that isn't a magic weapon? I'm guessing everyone benefits at least some from knockdown resistance, though maybe extra defense/magic defense is better?Phlegmish posted:The sass can be subtle, you might not notice in time if you don't give orders often, or if your pawn is Straightforward and therefore already sassy. It's pretty noticeable at least with the Japanese voice-over. Not so much for what they say as how they say it. Normally pawns just sound enthusiastic and happy all the time, even if they're complaining. But the one time I got an obviously infected guy (who also popped up the message), his tone of voice was very obviously irritable. The one thing that is kind of misleading is that they don't seem to do the irritable dialogue if you repeatedly talk to them. So as far as I can tell you can't just repeatedly talk to them and see if weird stuff pops up. Trenchdeep posted:There's bunch of materials that only show up in very specific areas, and one that only shows up in post game (eldricite) Ah, thanks for mentioning this. I'm in a NG+ where I never did the postgame (I plan on doing it in this NG+), and NG+ unlocks all buyable gear at the main weapon/armor merchants. I was surprised to see at least one or two things I had nothing of when trying to upgrade my top-tier stuff, and one was eldricite. Ytlaya fucked around with this message at 00:24 on Apr 8, 2024 |

My straightfoward pawn started running off and saying things like "I'm sure you mean well, but I know better" before I noticed he was infected. Then I noticed the red eyes are visible even in the dialogue portrait.

It looked like 10% when I was doing some quick and dirty testing, but yeah it is somewhere in that neighborhood. You will get everything up to 4 pretty quick and then everything will be very slow to progress as the DCP requirements get much higher.

What's strange about eldricite is forager marks an area where it should be able to be found (pre-postgame), but there doesn't seem to be anything there. The spawn may be bugged, unless it has conditions that all of my Googling hasn't turned up.

Something funny about the jumps in this game is that you barely get any air at all if you jump along even terrain, but for some reason as soon as you go over a ledge (or even over a steep incline like jumping down stairs) you get crazy hang time. I guess pawns get confused by this too.

After a few days of dual Sorc my only complaint is that certain areas simply are not conducive to Meteoron spam, but it is impossible to predict which. Sometimes they'll noclip through a few miles of solid bedrock to hit an enemy in a cave, sometimes not. That's why Maelstrom exists, I suppose. Also, the sorcerer's greatest advantage might be that it is entirely free to pursue fashion, since if you're getting hit at all you're not playing right. I wound up going pure dwarven smithing for everything except staffs/archistaffs once I unlocked it. Taking a bit more damage is one thing, but getting knocked down is annoying as gently caress. Correspondingly knocking enemies down is extremely satisfying. Maybe there's a good ratio for doing a bit of batthal/elven to cover up an armour's weakness and some dwarven for the rest, but it's way too inconvenient to do comparisons on the numbers except in the post-game where all the blacksmiths live next to each other.

Anybody ever go for a jump with a wizard stick and sometimes the game just doesn't notice that you pressed jump twice? Yeah. Endgame monsters: Hey, what's that on the bridge to the elf lands? Oh poo poo it's a dullahan, lets wreck it. What's that over on the other elf bridge 200 feet away? It's... another dullahan!! Also why do dullahans give more xp than anything else in the unmoored world, even lesser dragons only give about 3/4 as much as one headless dude. Now I just gotta find a few more gorechimeras.

Thundarr posted:Anybody ever go for a jump with a wizard stick and sometimes the game just doesn't notice that you pressed jump twice? Yeah. This was an issue the first game had as well, where stuff that was ultra rare for most of the game was suddenly everywhere in the endgame, when the main game really could have used the variety that having them be more common in general would have added. I think one of the reasons why BBI is so well liked is because it does have a much better mix of monsters present throughout the whole dungeon, so you're always fighting different stuff, rather than the same 4-5 types of monsters for 95% of the game and then all of a sudden a bunch of new stuff shows up in the last 5%.

So I just finished at 85 hours in. Overall enjoyed DD2 quite a lot. It made some miss-steps for sure, and it really clearly felt like the back 1/3rd was rushed, but its kind of 'broken' the same way the original DD pre Dark Arisen was. So I am looking forward to seeing what they do with DLC. I did find one odd thing I wanted to see if anyone else had seen or had thoughts on. In the unmoored world I went back to the Wyrm-whatever tower and found a 'real' dragon there instead of a drake or blight dragon. Like it talked and made my heart do the dragon pulse thing. It also only dropped dragon scales and not any of the blood crystals. Any idea what that was about? Was that happening earlier too and I just only noticed this time or is it actually unique? Related: because of that I found out you can absolutely just stab yourself with the sword anywhere in the unmoored world and die, lol. At least wakestones still work. So it's not that at least.

It's kind of insane how good Trickster aggro is, it's WAY higher than a fighter/warrior using their taunt.

Thumbtacks posted:It's kind of insane how good Trickster aggro is, it's WAY higher than a fighter/warrior using their taunt. Yeah it does sort of feel like the fighter/warrior taunt is more of a suggestion to the enemies - it raises the perceived threat of the character using it but they will still weigh that against everyone else in however their aggro calculation works. Trickster smoke seems like it forces enemies to target the trickster/ghost. The tutorial popup does say that the attack power on the censer raises the duration of smoke so it might be a thing where as long as the smoke debuff is applied, they can only target the trickster, unless they can't reach them.

I beat the game and my beloved was a random npc I gifted to bring back to my house to start a fistfight for the achievement. My 2nd closest was the other one, I guess they lost the fight, didn't want me bad enough. I have no idea why the end game happened kill a dragon and get to be king? No, instead, trigger the bad guy's plot to . . . what? end the world? and then... and then what??? what the gently caress happened? why was i doing any of this?? I also never resolved the plot around Sven and his mother. I'm not sure that even can resolve given the main questline's various ends. My pawn never got the red eyes, she was jolly the whole way through. as soon as she woke up from the bed in post game, she immediately reminded me that raw materials could be used for crafting, even before playing the scripted plot line, very good Started the game as fighter, swapped to MA for a while, then to warfarer with MA skills but the ability to bust out daggers for quick kills or the staff to levitate. Game is good, like the first one, but if it just spent more time on cool exploring/dungeons/loots/etc and less on dumb town crap, it could've been amazing. I booted up ng+ and it's reminding me how much I dislike constantly being boxed in by cliffs in the beginning. Mid-late game areas are much better.
