And good lord you do not need 2tb of SSD on this thing, 1tb and a 512gb SD card has been more than twice what I've ever needed which at one point that included Red Dead Redemption 2 and Elden Ring and since nobody could possibly play games differently than me I'm going to say that's 100% correct

I don't even think folding prongs are allowed in the EU. Never seen it on anything ever where I live at least.

Modern 3-prong Apple ones have them, but it’s an involved thing that I doubt many companies are willing to spend money on.

I got a 1tb drive installed and I'm about 150gb away from being full, but I also have a bunch of bullshit I will probably never play on there that I could remove if I wanted to.

That being said, one of the reasons I deleted Atomic Heart was that with DLC, it clocks in at about 90gb (the other being that it devours battery), and I have been thinking about getting a cheap M2 - USB adapter and cloning my drive to a new 2tb one.

Are there any recommended discord clients for the deck? I looked on the discover store thing and all of them seem to suck judging by reviews. Would be neat to have discord on this thing.

The official client? Comes in a tar though.

Edit: oh, it's actually in Discover, just do that. It works fine.

You can install it and add it as a non steam app, and run it in the background but it's not really a seamless experience to jump between discord and your game.

There's a decky plugin that lets discord see and display what game you're playing, which it otherwise won't do.

Though to be fair decky has been a wreck for me recently, maybe because I'm on the beta client or something, but it keeps breaking so right now I have no plugins installed because I got tired of getting a parade of error messages for every single plugin

I havent checked out anything like decky yet. Plan was to keep it stock while I get acquainted. But I can check that out later on.

Stay on stabile both in steamOS and decky

That's fair. I don't really know why I'm on the beta os branch anyway, I think I swapped at one point when the beta branch had a new feature I didn't want to wait for and never bothered to switch it back

How soon we forget. You used to have to reinstall decky after any os update it seemed like. It was very annoying. It hasn't done that in some time though to be fair and seems pretty stable at this point.

Same - there was a remote play fix and some control mapping options got added to beta ages ago and that's why I switched, but I think I can jump back to Stable now.

Funny enough the beta client just got some cool Steam Input mouse actions today

quote:

Steam Input

New Configurator feature "Swap Left with Right": While editing a Controller Configuration, you can Swap the behavior of the Left Stick and the Right Stick, or Left Trackpad and Right Trackpad etc. Highlight the source you want to swap in the "Edit Layout" page, and the "Y" button should appear to allow the swap. This should be handy for "South Paws".

New Mouse Action: "Turn to Face Direction". When activating this, the camera will turn to face the direction you are pushing on the Left Stick (default - Track pads, Dpads and Buttons can also be used). Can be combined with "Reset to Horizon" to produce a behavior similar to Splatoon's camera reset button. Note: Dots per 360 must be calibrated for this to be accurate.

New Mouse Action: "Dots per 360 Calibration". By default this will generate 360 degrees of rotation. You can use this to tune the Dots per 360 value in the Flick Stick / Gyro To Mouse modes. This can also be adjusted to produce perfect 180 turns once the "Dots per 360" value is properly calibrated.

Gyro to Joystick modes now no longer generate haptic events when outside the active range.

Seems kinda cool you can brew up your own 180 button

I thought about buying that, but I decided to buy a much cheaper dock first because I wasn't sure how often I'd play docked.

Good decision, as I hardly ever play docked.

If you're going to be using Discord for voice chat like I do, you'll really benefit from the volume mixer plugin for Decky. Seriously, it's incredible.

It remembers your volume setting, and let me tell you, it's WAY easier to just turn a game or app's volume up or down altogether, rather than mess with every single in-game slider. By default, game volume tends to drown out discord voice chat.

The official client is good but you might want to look into Vencord/Vesktop.

Default discord client does not have an implementation of their audio backend for Linux, which results in you being able to stream applications over Discord calls, but not the application audio (so like e.g. when streaming a game it means they don't get to hear your game).

Vesktop solves this problem discretely, also has themeing options and Plugins.

Oooh, thanks for this! For whatever reason, I just thought that the deck wasn't powerful enough to stream correctly or something.

Just be careful that Vesktop is, strictly speaking, not condoned via the discord ToS.

At the same time I don't think anyone's been banned about it, and it's kind of on Discord for not having a good Linux client

update on my annoying 'deck won't boot' issue

I got it to boot... by connecting it to a tv (???)

but as soon as I disconnect it, the screen stops working again

so either the screen died or there's still something hosed that I need to change somewhere

guess I can try a factory reset next

Can you boot into bios on the deck?

BoldFace

I would recommend booting it with the TV, going to the desktop mode and checking the battery health. I've heard cases where letting the deck run out of juice has messed the calibration, making it display much worse battery health percentage than how it really is.

Connect to the tv in desktop mode and check your display settings. I had the same issue once and fixed it there. Sounds like it’s booting fine and just not putting anything on the screen.
