What would be the best setup to get Fripp's tone in Eno's "Here Come The Warm Jets"? I can't use software for this, any recommendations?

Anyone know the most cost effective way to get a tone similar to the fuzzy lead halfway through this video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTRdmXX2UfQ&t=86s Thanks.

watt par posted:Sounds like a voltage starved germanium fuzz. I ordered an EHX Germanium OD immediately after seeing this post. Not the big fat muff one, the small one. Most of the example videos on youtube seem to involve guys who don't quite get the whole 60's fuzz appeal, or at least they haven't dialed those tones in. Think this pedal can get me at least somewhat close? EDIT: I do have a Big Muff Pi that I can run into it, if that'll help. Gaspy Conana fucked around with this message at 21:37 on Mar 20, 2013 |

Jam2 posted:What { hardware | software | signal processing components } can be used to create the vocal effects used in this performance? Sounds like pitch correction with a lower speed/threshold setting. They also seem to have the formant control set an octave up (except at the end, which sounds like an octave down.) Formant control is usually packaged with any worthwhile VST autotune/pitch correction effect. Add a touch of saturation and chorus too. There also may be a bit of plate reverb or space echo? The effect 2/3 through sounds like a gated delay.

Jam2 posted:Wonderful. Yeah, that's how most dudes I know do it. Here's a free FX bundle with a pitch correction VST included: http://www.meldaproduction.com/plugins/product.php?id=MFreeEffectsBundle It isn't the best, but it works and can do crazy formant stuff.

Which pedals do you folks find the most versatile, or have you had the longest? Fish & Chips EQ and DigiDelay are always somewhere on my board, and are also weirdly my two cheapest.

I don't think you should need a preamp. I did that with a ukulele (sometimes at church, sometimes amped + FX pedal'd + mic'd for a live show) and it was fine!

I should clarify that I always had an EQ pedal hooked up which boosted it a fair bit.

Are you wanting to use this live/in a guitar rig or are you just using it for recording purposes? If you just need it for recording, what you have should be fine. The quality of these things doesn't vary much. I use a $20-$30 "Mr. Power" reverb tank I ordered on Amazon and simply run cables from and back to my interface. If your interface doesn't push enough signal + has a high noise floor you may want to boost the signal both before and after the tank, depending. Here's an old vid: https://www.instagram.com/p/BaJ1rW1FdCH/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link Audio sounds crappy because I stuck my bottom phone mic into an ear of my headphones. In recordings it came through nicely. You can hear it clearly on the drums and ukulele in this track: https://jtholen.bandcamp.com/track/formations-basidia Nowadays I have it permanently hooked up to a channel so I can dial in spring reverb whenever I want.
