I am ready to pull the trigger on an 08 or 09 5-door wrx. My only problem making the decision is that I know I can get a hell of a deal if they have some 08's on the lot. Does the price justify the improvements or will I be able to use the money I saved on some upgrades?

I am also in the VIP program so I get invoice no matter what.

Are there any real mods that I can do to my 09 OBS, other than a sway bar and new tires? I was thinking a new exhaust or some type of intake, but I don't think they make any.

Does anyone have any experience with tuners in the Philadelphia area? I need to get my 17 wrx with
    Installed:
TBE, Perrin Intake, AP, Boomba BPV
    Not Installed
Grimmspeed EBCS, TGV delete, EGR delete

So far I am leaning towards RT Tuning as they seem to have good reviews.

I had a strange thing happen to my wife's 15 forester. I had the remote start (push button version) installed by the dealer on Dec 29th. All have been great with it but this past Sunday we started it fine (twice) drove to get gas about 20 mins into the drive. When we went to start it back up after the fill-up, no starter turn over and the brake pedal was difficult to press. All lights worked with full power and that jazz, but I had my dad come and jump us. Turned right over and has been fine ever since.

I am thoroughly confused as to what the issue is, her battery was replaced 12-15 months ago.

Also, I want to replace my 17 WRX Limited seats with Alcantara lined seats that retain the heating elements. I don't care for the electronic controls and would like to gain an inch or 2 of headroom. Any suggestions?

Edit: I want a new stereo and speakers and maybe an amp for the door speakers. Pioneer and Kenwood still the go tos?

These FA20 (bren tuned) engines are very sensitive to fuel. I swear each time I get gas it is a roll of the dice whether or not I have issues with knock feedback and learning and this is usually from the same station (Valero seems best in South Jersey). I am half tempted to get rid of the car because I can't enjoy it.

So to maybe help this issue I was going to replace the Perrin intake with the Grimmspeed or stock. I also want to get it on a lift to check all fitments again, wrap the Jpipe and install a new charge pipe (when everything is good), then get a retune.

Are there any other areas I can look at to make sure I am not missing anything?

Just have the tuner pull some timing if you can't get decent fuel.

I find it hard to believe that South Jersey doesn't have good gas brands. My go-to brands are Valero, Sunoco, and Citgo. Shell has one station in the area.

From what I understand that's somewhat normal just because the quality of fuel can vary. That's why the ecu can adjust over time. You really don't want to see knock under high load though.

Yeah this tank is acting very strange. FKL has been as low as -4.22 when starting from a stop and FBK hits -1.41 most times when I tap the accelerator. It's acting like the octane is a lot lower.

The tank before, which I was doing half fillups, was running great. Same station too.

I'm going to burn this tank down and fill up with shell/sunoco/citgo in a high traffic area. Maybe add some 100 octane to bump it up more.

On my ‘17 I almost always see one infinitesimally short instance of -1.41 every time I drive it, with a rare instance of -2.81. According to Cobb this is within normal range of your DAM is not out of range. My DAM is always 1 so I’ve never been concerned with it, but I do always monitor it on the AP screen. Are you saying you get feedback knock more often than not when tapping the gas pedal? Maybe you did get some wonky gas.

I have about 70 miles left on the tank so I will keep you guys informed on what happens next.

Instead of gas talk, what chassis and suspension parts should I be looking into? Pitch stop, trans mounts and end links?

So I was able to get a half tank from a station that sells high-quality fuel along with e85. That seems to have been it. Amazing how much fuel consistency varies even at the same stations.

I'm looking to do a few things to my 17 wrx. I want new wheels and springs. Is there really any reason other than there are more options to go to 9.5in wide? I really don't want to get new tires as I have plenty of meat on my stock ones and I do not like the stretched look.

I may just bite the bullet and get the copper Enkei TS10s or the hyper bronze Cosmis R1s in 9.5 because they don't make them in 8.5.

What are my best options in tires (brand and width) and in springs?

Please note 265/35 on a 9.5 wheel requires an offset of at least +40. +35 will rub.

Also note good tires run $900-1000 a set at that size.

Trying to find +38-40 on wheels I like is loving impossible. I am going to keep looking for something. I believe 8.5in +35 shouldn't rub without a roll of the fender.

I can get the tires pretty cheap as I know someone who works at mavis and can order at cost from tirerack.

I looked at the accord before I bought my 17 wrx and there was not much of a difference. I was looking at the sport model because honda has the special ability to pick the worst looking wheels on every car they make and the stereo was no better than my stock stereo. Ok new issue. I am looking to hard wire my dashcam to the mirror 12v supply with the 12v to 5v converter. To see what I am working with, I got to that harness going to the mirror and unplugged it (it's a short 4 inch harness with a black and white connecter on either side). When I couldn't find out which wire was which with my multimeter and decided to save it for another day. I now get no power to the mirror. Everything else works on that ceiling console, except for the power going to the mirror. I triple checked all connections but I get nothing.

Anyone with experience know what else I can check?

Looking online, there is a fuse that might be part of the problem.

I have a strange issue that popped up on my 17 WRX yesterday. Everything was going well until I had to brake really hard yesterday morning. After that I noticed a strange buzzing noise that is only affected by wheel speed. The sound happens both in gear and coasting in neutral. What rpm range does this occur? Sounds like a boost leak if you can't keep boost pressure steady. Check your worm clamps.

um excuse me posted:

It seems to be rpm independent. I noticed it in 6th @ 75mph, so about 2800rpm. I made sure the issue was repeatable by bring revs down to 2500 and giving it a bit of gas. Once I established the issue repeated itself, I dropped it down to forth and went to 5000 rpm, studdering all the way. I've been smelling hot plastic since my last oil change. They may be related but I don't know how they could be. The oil change was luckily done at Subaru so I might be able to pin them for the repair if I can find a related cause.

Edit: drove it again. Power is consistently down and peak boost is 16 psi. This is almost certainly a boost leak. Besides looking for holes and tightening fittings, is there any other tests I can do?

If they did the service I would take it right back and explain the issue started after the oil change. Any intake mods?

I took mine in for service for that noise, turns out it was a rear passenger wheel bearing. They will be replacing both rears under warranty.

2 Things:

1. My wife and I are looking into upgrading her 2015 Forester Touring to a 2021 Ascent. I know the first few years of that cars existence had its issues, but is there any reason I should not be looking at it? It drives really nice and the extra room for the kids is a huge benefit.

2. My 17 WRX (full bolt-ons) has thrown a P0018 code for the left intake cam sprocket sensor. Last year I had the P0016 code show up and had the engine pulled, after putting it back to stock, by the dealer to replace right intake cam sprocket, sensor, and ecu. Has anyone else had these issues? I have the service bulletin from the NHTSA https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10160490-9999.pdf

My wife refuses the idea of the minivan. The CVT point makes sense since I heard of the issues the previous years had.
