Whats the deal with changing tyres on spoked rims? I've done the SV tyres before but i have a set of pilot powers coming for the drz and want to fit them myself, just wondering if I have to do anything different when supporting the wheels while I swing out of them to get the old tyres off.

Has anyone here ever used Evans waterless coolant? Saw Jay Leno talking about it on his site a few weeks ago and it looks pretty cool. http://www.jaylenosgarage.com/video/waterless-engine-coolant/1376127 Lots of offroader/enduro guys use it apparently. I just found a retailer in the uk that'll ship to Ireland and debating buying it. I'd be interested to hear anyones personal experience of it.

I'm probably going to drop 1 in the front or go up 3 at the back on my drz aswell, currently its pegged out at 98 mph indicated in top gear, its not really comfortable above 90, so i'd rather have the fun factor of more acceleration. Also want to do it because I suck at wheelies, i'd like to be able to pop it up in third a bit easier, with the stock gearing i can only get it to do a sad little hop.

The whole automotive industry is incestuous like that, my Suzuki wagon-r is also an Opel Agila, Opel being a division of GM. My DRZ is a KLX, My BMW f650 is an Aprilla Pegaso, my SV650 shares a lot of its DNA with various Hyosungs. My mothers Ford Galaxy is essentially the same car as her old VW Sharan. her husbands Audi A4 is pretty much the same as my gfs dads VW Passat. What i'm saying is vehicle designers be lazy yo.

I can take my drz down lovely undulating gravelly potholed backroads flat out (at a whopping 97mph) and its the same as taking my SV at 30mph. I had a BMW F650 aswell and the DRZ is far more coomposed in rough conditions than it was, although not as comfortable to sit on for extended periods. The DRZ has an electric fan on the rad, but overheating is a rare problem in Irish weather. You may be able to beef it up, personally I wouldn't sit in traffic anyway (filtering is legal here)

Are bikes like a car where mixing and matching tires isnt the greatest idea? Should I just buy another stock rear until the front wears and then replace the set? I just put a set of pilot powers on mine to replace the lovely oem tyres, they handle really nicely and by all accounts get a long life on the drz. I changed the back tyre first and rode around with mismatched tyres for about 3 weeks, I didn't notice anything drastically dangerous about it.

Orange Someone posted:Guys I didnt know you could plate E models in the uk/ireland. The E has a better carb, more agggressive cam profile (pre 06 anyway) and a larger diameter header. So basically it has all the go-fast mods people do to their SMs already done out of the box. That one has a nice front brake upgrade done to it. I was looking at that bike last night, if it wasnt at the wrong side of england one of my mates was going to hop on the ferry to go get it. edit, I think the older non USD forks have a little less trail with the sumo wheels than the USDs on the newer models, making them slightly more twitchy, but there are lots of people riding around on them so it cant be that big of a deal. echomadman fucked around with this message at 13:03 on May 8, 2012 |

Olde Weird Tip posted:I'm replacing the turn signals with something less bulky and floppy. The stockers are just on there until i can get some replacements those floppy indicators can really take a beating though. I had to put them back on my bike because the lovely cheap LED ones the PO had fitted had vibrated/corroded themselves to death. So far they've shrugged off a few low speed falls, being clipped as I squeezed through a narrow pedestrian entrance and being bent almost 90degrees when i got off the bike after putting it on the sidestand too close to a pole

I have also been eye'ing a WR450 that has been converted on craigslist for the last two months. I told myself I would get a sumo / dirtbike next spring but these are the best prices I have seen ever. Good thing I am out of town until Friday, I have some time to think rationality about things. if you get a set of wheels off an offroad model drz-e they bolt right up, and you'ld need second chain and sprocket set for offroad gearing, although you'ld probably get away with just a bigger rear and a longer chain. For fire roads the right tyres on the sumo rims would be ok for most of it, they're pretty good in anything thats not mud or wet grass.

Also, that subframe looks kind of strange from that pic. It looks like he removed panels or something, I can't tell from that pic. Make sure the old one is straight if you want to include that in the deal. Actually it doesn't even look like it has a fender on it? Can you post the CL ad? I promise I won't snipe it out from under you or something crazy, PM me if you want it kept private. he says in the ad he has all the original plastics, That low front mudguard will be a godsend if you ride in the rain, off-road ones dont stop the spray off the 17'' wheels, the bike will be more stable at high speeds with it too, you'd only need to take it off if you were going off-road on the bike.
