I can't decide what's a better feeling, coming back from down 5-2 at half to win 6-5, or watching the other team's keeper run up with less than a minute left to petulantly body-block our keeper and fall backwards into him in an attempt to draw a foul. Either way, I'm satisfied

Man, that sucks. Knock wood I've mostly avoided injuries in my first 28 years but I fear doing in my knee as well. Good luck on the recovery. I just moved to the DC/Northern Virginia area recently and I'm not sure where to start to find a five-a-side team. Anyone have ideas?

Ungratek posted:i dont know much about 5 a sides in this area, but there are tons of 7s and 11s leagues in DC and Arlington (don't know how far out you are). I play in Metro Sports and District Sports, and the leagues are pretty well run and horribly reffed. Feel free to ask me more, been playing here for 5 years. I live in Falls Church, looking for something on Sundays, 7s, preferably. I'm a casual, so good players will torch me, but I'm not a scrub, either. I got on my last team through a sub board and stuck with em for a few years, playing defense was a rarity where I came from, apparently. I'd imagine things are different in such an international city like DC

Tigren posted:Playing defense is always a rarity. Even fatties think they can play striker and wander around the field. If you can play defense and have the discipline not to sprint to a forward position at every inopportune moment, you'll find a team everywhere. It mostly spawns from my pretty-good-for-an-amateur touch, solid control (when stationary) and inability to move well with the ball. I blame my dog for not letting me get past him when we play outside

Bogan Krkic posted:I just play futsal at the local futsal place ftw It took me a while after moving to another state to find an indoor league and I'm coming to the tail end of my first session in a league that uses a futsal ball on a smaller turf field. It's much easier to take first touches, but I miss the ability to easily chip and make short distance passes through the air. That little bit of deadness to the futsal ball is hard to adjust to. Fortunately half of our team is switching to a place that's much nicer and has full-sized indoor fields.

I'm starting at a new place in October and it allows studs, I've always played on field-turf with turf shoes and been fine. Should I be wearing my outdoor shoes? I really like my turf shoes, but if it's worth it, I'd switch.

That's awful news, sorry to hear that. The league I'm in that uses small fields and futsal balls is over and I've completed my big money transfer to a larger and more modern sportsplex, season starts in October. It's not about the money, though. It's about ambition for silverware. Also it's right near my office so I can go to games right after work.

Bullshit, I didn't play soccer (mostly basketball) growing up and I scored a header last week I also took a crack at keeper this week, we won 14-4, but I let one soft goal in and a line drive went right through my hands. I have a lot more appreciation for the ability to lay out for a save now. That said, I put a sumptuous pass over the back of their defense to our sprinting striker (who thankfully converted) on one counter that made the whole thing worth while.

Last week tied 7-7, (in part due to my steal and run down the wing to set up the eventual goal) our keeper did the classic Indoor Keeper move of leaving his area with the ball and losing it, getting a yellow and leaving us down a man with a minute left and without a good keeper. We lost 8-7.

Actually tbh he was at fault for 2 goals by taking the ball out of his area, not including the eventual winner after he was sent off for the last 1:50 or so

Insanely Sikh posted:I've never tried Futsal, would love to give it a go I played in an indoor league that had small fields so they used a futsal ball on field turf. It was pretty interesting, it's a lot easier to dead the ball on your foot, but the extra bit of weight makes anything in the air a dicey proposition. I had fun, though.

Guys in my league love to run over women. It's a bit nuts, they almost go in harder than they would against a guy. We had a torn MCL from it. I'll save posters the time: NEVER PLAY CO-ED THIS IS THE BEST I CAN DO I AM CO-ED QUALITY

Is anyone else in this thread a late-bloomer? I didn't start playing till I was 26 and it's a shame because I think I would have been better playing soccer than basketball in high school. I've taken to the sport pretty well, and I have a poo poo-ton more fun playing it. Basketball was just posting up and defending, I was incredibly bored by it by the time I graduated college. The indoor leagues I've been in and the occasional outdoor sub have been more fun than any other sport I've played. TheBigAristotle fucked around with this message at 04:52 on Aug 7, 2016 |

Yeah I played my first indoor game since September last night, three off the post and a goal in a 9-7 win. I have a sharp pain in my heel right after playing but it goes away overnight. Anyone ever get this?

I think it's tendon related because I've had it before and it's only painful during certain motions.

Had the best offensive game of my indoor career last night, scored 4, set up two more. Also got up-ended by a sliding keeper when I was chasing that third goal. Definitely feeling the dent in my leg this morning. Worth it

I've scored two hat tricks (and another two including a nice free kick off a lay-off last week) in this 30+ shite indoor turf league I joined a couple months ago. There's a good mix of solid players and our team is in the upper middle of the 6 since last session. There's a couple spicy vets and I'm just getting set up to crush the ball. Being 30+ For now.

Metal studs tend to be illegal in casual leagues, in my limited experience of 5 years. But I'm also in America, and we are all wieners that suck at football

I'm bad and play once a week at most, and my boots are Nike Bomba turf shoes. Comfortable enough, and pretty inexpensive, you can find a pair online from $40-80, depending on if you can find clearance sales. I had these until a few years ago when someone broke into my car and stole my sports bag:

Nothing saves a bad game quite like the ball coming out of the defense to your feet and just lacing it into the top corner.
