I've bought the game on steam summer sale, and so far I love it. I haven't gotten any mods yet, but in my limited time I've clocked around 50 h already. I've got only one problem - those loving tournaments where you get a lance, and you miss your opponent on your first clash.

So far game is immensely enjoyable! I just wish they didn't put cheat engine protection in for character screen, just let me play Bannerlord version of "1000 stat man" you jerks :argh:

just remember this is basically 2004 era mount and blade but modern

it is janky and buggy but gently caress you i love it

It has QoL updates the previous game got later or in mods already. ALT to highlight locations and notable characters is already huge. Having game remember prices of some items in other cities you've visited is amazing too.

Another patch! Nothing groundbreaking for me, but should limit snowballing more.

Storyline question: I've talked to 8 nobles, now I get to pick from two options as to what I'll do with rebuilt banner. Do I need to pick one of them to progress?

Caravan escort missions either are quick neighborhood stroll or drat Odyssey to the other end of the map. I wish I knew stops before accepting the quest.
E: I think the issue is with the quest logic don't taking water into account. I got one leg of that quest basically circling the inner sea, and then back.

Is smithing worthwhile? Seems really slow with the weird stamina mechanic, which will be the first thing I mod out.

Yes, it is. I use tweak mod that gives a lot more of stamina. You can often get more money for breaking 3 pieces of hardwood into 2 charcoal, or by smelting some poo poo weapons into steel and other materials.
It's also good way to get weapon types you usually can't find, like the lances you've mentioned. Just break some looted weapons first (needs charcoal which you get from hardwood) to unlock weapon pieces.
As far as selling weapons made it feels for me like I can get more money by refining mats into higher tiers and selling those.

I don't know how to get my kingdom started. My party limit is 140, got a decent set of units so I grabbed one faraway castle that recently switched hands. Now I need a city, but after taking care of enemy parties rubbing around I get around 100 good soldiers and some randos. Nearest city of enemy faction has 280 defenders, and I got beaten badly storming it. Should I just join other kingdom as a vassal for a while?

Thanks for the tips. I've assembled the banner, but not feel like handing it over to anyone. Do I have to pick one and give it?

Bannerlord Tweaks and Beta 1.1 seem to have multiplying effect on skill gain, just got 181 points to smithing from breaking down some decent spear.
E: that means 100% legendary, but it feels like just the first crafted item got that status. Still 23k sale value for materials that cost 500, no complaints.

Was it the first smithing thing you did in the beta? They changed the skill level xp requirements, so the first time you get xp you'll jump to a higher skill level

You do get more xp and unlocks from crafting valuable stuff though

Yeah, and I've noticed it with athletics, riding etc.

It also seems like it's not worth to break down items for materials to sale anymore. On the other hand javelins are crazy expensive once you unlock some better parts. Nothing like changing 3 pieces of fine steel, 2 wood, 1 charcoal and 1 steel into something worth 64k.

I also get crashes after cleaning bandit hideouts, happens after kicking the bandit boss and taking items.

You weren't kidding when saying glaive used 2h is ridiculous! Nothing more satisfying than killing 2 riders in one pass. And if the cowards take out my horse I can just unseat someone in one swing. I'm just going to need Guan Yu character preset for maximum accuracy..

I don't see the point in bothering with it anyway since all you gotta do is drop the mod in the modules folder and unblock the dll and I assume vortex doesn't do that latter step anyway.

It asks for elevating rights after mod install. I had Vortex already installed for Skyrim stuff, because alternatives worked worse for me.

Siege tip probably anyone but me knew: probably by the time you set your camp the castle has 2-3 siege engines ready that are likely to clean yours quickly. What I did was schedule 4 trebuchets, and as first one got deployed I've moved it to reserves. After all 4 were ready I just activated them all and they made short work of catapults on the walls.

I think energy gets recovered as you travel, but with slower pace.

As far as unimplemented perks go it's the same with reloading crossbow on horseback. Makes them way less useful for me, because higher rate of fire and more ammo are more important in pretty much any other situation. Maybe if sieges were slower and more deliberate crossbows would be more useful. Right now I can down 20 dudes headshotting them as they climb ladders or bunch up around rams.

Also had my first siege defense, I'd lose but I'm a big baby that installed hp regen on kill mod. I've finished last 45 dudes myself with a 2h glaive.

As of last beta looters occasionally kill your troops. It also crashes every time I want to enter smithy. Probably because my char has crazy high smithing, but I don't care enough to fix it now.

I know kingdom level play is a placeholder, but I got betrayed by other clan for a second time seemingly out of blue. I got 2 of their 4 members, but they are a part of huge empire faction and it looks like relationship malus applies to all clans within the faction.

alex314

Great tactics points, and mirror my experiences. After lines meet the enemy ranged are often last to arrive, and I then try to disrupt them as rest of army chews enemy melee.

I also suggest everyone enable cheats: twice I had a siege where I either was the last attacker remaining trying to find last couple enemies or I had enemy stuck inside some wall and my troops tried to close distance unsuccessfully. Ctrl+F4 fixed that without the hassle of retreating and fighting again.

Last night I wanted to check if when you destroy siege engines on a wall they stay destroyed on a map - nope. I wish they implemented that, then you could do a sick commando runs.

Anyone else tried soloing a siege? I did it by cutting through main gates. It takes some serious time, and you have to be careful to not catch a stone, but it beats scaling ladders. Then it's a matter of finding a good spot, sniping enemies and going on a quick arrow resupply runs. Best is: even if you die you can retreat without issues.

Interesting bug: I've found out hard way that at lest one tower of imperial town has a top floor that lets arrows through, and archers below see you. You can walk on it fine, but I suddenly got peppered with arrows from below.

I think the AI does some chopping, since I notice some clans I want to get in my kingdom have 1-2 members.

I wish there were some other ways of having a conflict between entities, like a vendetta against a specific clan, that could go on as long as ruler of kingdom doesn't ask you to calm down "or else..".

Or at least a way to sack the city/castle, knocking down improvements for mad coins.

Still I really enjoy the game in it's present form, it scratches that itch...

alex314
Nov 22, 2007

I've screwed around with max party size mods, and got myself at 1400, so most other parties end up around 600. Unfortunately once I got into 3-way hellwar my kingdom routinely smashes 1000+ armies with enemies. Game doesn't really work great with this setup, I doubt many people have hardware to run 2000+ , and the respawns screw up the flow of the fight.

alex314

Has anyone found a way to finish the war in kingdom stage? I've got maybe 15% of the map and one by one got declared by all but one kingdom (except two landless ones). It looks like all you need is a border and it will cause war some time in the future.

I have around equal strength to 3 out of 4 enemies, so no chance to break them. I got tired of impasse and chopped some heads, so now I cannot get any clan to join me, even ones with good relations.

I get by only because I play on easy and routinely cheat relocate my doom army of hardened veterans.

Thanks for help, I'll probably stop campaign of beheadings soon, it barely gets me anywhere.
As for peace options: I can get it by paying crazy amount of money: 520k for the weakest of my enemies, around double that for the rest. Anyone has idea how it's calculated? Should I try to raid a bunch of villages while keeping as many lords in prison as possible?

alex314

It would be cool if they would start in your clan, but those that were not designed heir would have possibility of creating a new clan.

alex314
Nov 22, 2007

I've had similar situation: 500 attackers, 300 defenders, I was headshotting fools left and right and didn't notice the walls were overwhelmed. Got downed pretty soon afterwards. Started pretty good, archers downed couple dozen attackers manning the ram, then probably something stupid happened with defender AI, because when I attack I can get very one-sided losses to my troops scaling the walls.

I did a couple hours of horse archer only army, and it's beyond broken on easy. As long as enemy army isn't half crossbows then I can take on twice as many enemies and maybe get a couple of dudes wounded. With parity in numbers I rarely lose anyone. I'm not even sure if it's worth it to update to the highest tier troops.
And because of crazy speed I can siege a city for a moment, then break siege and pick off the enemies one by one. Crazy, cathartic fun.
