You can get a decent laptop for a decent price at CanEx, just don be an idiot and get a 2000$ one. I only lasted 3 weeks in Gagetown before folding because I was so god drat bored on PAT. Car is a good choice to, but again don't get a brand new Silverado for 40 grand. YOU CAN'T AFFORD THAT poo poo IDIOT. YOU MAKE 700$ A PAY.

I did PAT pretty recently compared to most guys here, but I'm pretty sure we've all seen the same mistakes. Buying big rear end TV's that get sold before they're even paid for because people get posted, buying Camaros on PTE 1 pay, falling in "love" with a fat chick you meet at 20/20 and asking to get posted to Gagetown.

Hahahaha guess you weren't in the ghetto barracks. Our lawn was covered with a carpet of beer bottles, pools of old vomit in the hallways, some barracks rooms looking like something out of an episode of Hoarders. My room got inspected only once during my stay, during the clear out process from that shithole.

For the only time while I was in the army I would pray for a surprise barracks inspection by the base sergeant major. At the same time I heard that the course barracks were run like a loving Gestapo division, but our barracks were a no-go zone for anyone above a master-jack. gently caress Gagetown forever.

Does anyone have experience applying to the RMCC? I don't have a degree, just my high school diploma, can I still apply with any hopes of being accepted? Do I have to already be an active CF member to apply, NCM or otherwise? I am former CF but not with any substantial experience, I was in for a year. It has been my long term goal to return, but in a trade I actually want. I think the RMCC is the best route for this. I'm going to call the recruitment centre in the morning but figured I'd ask goons for some info, as well.

I've been working in private security since I left the Forces, and am just about to graduate a 6-week college course on Nov. 2nd with my local police department. :jerkbag: I know but I really suck at selling myself and have no idea what might help me get into the school.

The RMC is just like any other university in terms of academic requirements (you'll have to look up the specific requirements for individual programs to see if your high-school marks are good enough). If you meet those requirements there is also an interview you have to pass, similar to when you signed up. Anybody with a high-school diploma (and meets the basic CF requirements) can apply and the fact that you already served in the CF will probably be an advantage during the interview. Having some college courses under your belt will also probably be helpful.

Edit: They will probably ask why you left the CF after only one year and now want to come back, so you might want to start thinking of a good answer ahead of time.

Edit 2: I thought about applying but in the end chose not to. Having to deal with all the army poo poo and a substantial academic load simultaneously on a daily basis sounded like more stress and work than I wanted to put up with. A better alternative is to pick a program that the RMC doesnt have, in which case they can pay for your education at a civilian university, and you would only be doing your army training in between semesters.

All that being said, handguns are loving useless and excluding the times overseas where having a firearm on you is mandatory I can't think of a single moment where I would have rather had a handgun over my C8.

I found the slide catch to be very uncomfortable to operate, and like others said, having to put in a mag to clear the pistol seems pretty dumb from a safety standpoint. Note: my only other points of reference are the Steyr M and Glock 17, both of which I found to be infinitely more comfortable to use.

Typically not paying attention is a big one. Know one that got failed because he let the airplane roll forward on post-landing checks, another (Ph2) that missed an altitude restriction on an approach plate. If I recall correctly, landings are the biggest single factor in Ph1, and it's hard to prepare for because the Grob lands much differently than a 172 or Katana or whatever.

Ph1 is a continuation of the selection phase, Ph2 is more like a real course that they want you to pass (more or less). I haven't paid a lot of attention to Ph3 stuff yet because it's a long way off - just that one course massacre Sir John mentioned. 8/10 failed I believe, but that's anamolous.

Well, for FY14/15 there is ZERO intake for Bioscience. Meaning that it's closed and we're not hiring. I don't know how patient you are, and my info doesn't extend beyond this current fiscal year. I also don't have the numbers for FY13/14, and sometimes they carry over positions year to year if they're not filled, but seeing as it's closed...

The qualifications that would set you up for Bio would probably also allow you to apply successfully to a bunch of other officer trades if you're interested.

Thanks, I just started a 3 year PhD program so I can afford to wait. I also had an application being processed for pilot for over a year, but it was taking so long that I started the aforementioned PhD because I didnt want to wait any longer. I was applying under DEO.

B) Why are we contributing anything to EITHER side? This isn't our fight, it's never been our fight, we shouldn't be sticking our noses in it.

The Kurds seem to be the only group in the region worth supporting, and this way Harper can at least be seen to do something. And as much as I dislike Stevie H I dont think this is such a bad move.
